What happened to them? Weren't they supposed to release a new CD soon? The first one was awesome. I remember seeing it under future releases on Amazon, but can't find anything about it anymore.

Maybe they took some extra studio time... Wich is not uncommon.
When you see a release date on a website, thats usually the Record Companies giving you some eye candy.
That actually has nothing to do with the bands real intention of releasing it.
At least with a band like Audioslave, who probally decide by themselves wether a song is done or not its only a matter of guessing.
When you talk about Ashlee Simpson the release date has nothing to do whatsoever with if she thinks the songs are done or not, the record company speaks and she does.
Audioslave on the other hand...

Heard on the radio today that it got delayed until March or something?
Something about the Rage member being signed to Epic, and Chris Cornell on whatever Soundgarden's label was, so each release gets flip flopped between the two.
