Runescape Auto Woodcutter is lair of spyware

Many gamers use various programs and bots to ease gameplay and save their time. By using those programs, they risk to lose everything valuable on their computers. Almost every bot program is designed to infect a user’s PC with spyware.

One of those programs is Runescape auto woodcutter. Using it is not only illegal; it will also infect your PC with spyware. Same goes for other autos that Runescape players like to use to save their time and ease gameplay.

What is actually Runescape Auto Woodcutter?

The Runescape auto woodcutter is a macro or bot program, that allows you to be away from your computer for long periods of time and still get a great deal of woodcutting done. The auto woodcutter cuts trees and then takes them to the bank and then goes back to those trees and proceeds to cut more wood. All this is happening on so called autopilot. This tool however is obviously against Runescape's rules and caused that thousands of Runescape accounts have been banned.

This program can be downloaded on many sites and it’s usually packed in .zip compressed file. Name of the file varies depending on how person who created it or who just share the file, named it. It can be woodcutter.zip, runescape_auto.zip, IBot.zip, etc.

The way the macro works is by using two color scanners, where one color scanner scans the exact color of the leaves of the tree, and the other with the trunk. After scanning these two colors, after clicking start, mouse automatically starts moving, goes to turn your public chat to “friends” and starts chopping away the trees. After member gets a full load it then takes it to a bank, banks the load, and runs back to the trees just to start repeating the process for limited number of times.

Is the Downloading the Free Auto Woodcutter Macros Harmful?

This macro is not harmful to your computer, but it is potentially very harmful to your Runescape account, because if Jagex finds out your using it they will ban your account.

In order to check this statement picked on one of this kind of sites, I conducted a little test.
Test is consisted of finding Auto Woodcutter, downloading it and finally checking it with several Antivirus and Anti-Spyware programs.

Here’s what I’ve got.

Is Runescape Auto Woodcutter a lair of Spyware?

First thing I did was a search on Google for ‘runescape auto woodcutter’. I found several sites, but my attention has been caught by one who’s been offering a download.
I went there and one user was offering a bot program via two links. The program name is IBot.zip
He said it’s clean, without spyware. It works 100%. Cool.

I myself decided to download it. It takes about 500KB, so download finishes in few seconds.

Before I proceed with a next step, I’ve check comments on his post. Majority of comments were like: “I want auto”, “ty”, “Thank you for sharing”,...
Only couple of ‘partybreakers’ were saying “It’s a trojan”, “I’m infected”, “Don’t download it”

I decided to check the file myself. The easiest way is to use one of the free online scanner sites. The best choice would be www.virustotal.com.
So, I uploaded file, and it said it’s been scanned before. Someone had doubts regarding this IBot program already in January.
I clicked on results and what have I seen?
Check the picture.

Full result:

So as the answer: These types of files are not harmful to your Runescape account only. They can compromise your PC security by leaving all doors open to third party software and attacks on your system. All your data, passwords and valuable info stored on your PC, can be exposed to anyone if you decide to install and use this auto woodcutter or any other bot program.

So, answer is yes. Or even better, check the title. It tells all.

I smiled when i read Symantec never found anything. I have been trying to get my family off Symantec/Norton ant-virus because there is alot better free software out there like AVG and Avira, yet people keep paying for a product that barely picks anything up.
