Respect - You'd best start earning it
by Odus
Respect is one of the most (if not the most) important attributes for society to maintain, yet it is hard to define. On its broadest level respect is the acknowledgment that someone has value. They may be rich, work very hard, or may simply treat everyone in a way that gives them value. The importance on this value is that it changes peoples reactions towards you, usually in a positive way. A person is more likely to treat you nicely if you do what is asked of you instead of arguing with them. It is the value you earned while doing what you were told that has lead the person to respect you and therefore treat you nicely.
For some unexplainable reason, there has been an increase in members acting like juvenile delinquents. What i am referring to is the childlike behaviour of members accusing people of scamming without proof, the abusive PM's people receive and so forth. When you joined Realpoor, there were a set of registration terms you were asked to read before agreeing to. I am under no illusion's, i know the vast majority don't bother reading them which then ends up with them being suspended or banned. Since this sector of members has no intention of reading the rules, they will be dealt with the same way as anyone else who breaks our rules. For those who have an interest in staying as a member of the site i would like to point out a few issues we have been having lately:
- Spamming
I'm getting very tired of the members joining and spamming to gain credits. This is not exclusively a trading site, we are also a gaming community. Spamming our boards with "i agree", "lol funny", fhfhfhfh" is not acceptable and will result in account suspension for 1 month. It is very simple to post nine constructive sentences to add to a discussion.
- Referral links
This has become an increasing issue over the past month. People have been posting topics such as "How to get RS members free" or "want an xbox 360 free?" and linking their referral number in the post and telling them to follow the instructions. This allows members to gain money/prizes by getting people to visit the referral link, its a blatent form of advertising and spam and is therefore against the rules. Posting referral links will result in account suspension/ban.
Any members who see a post containing a link ending in "REF9456" (numbers used as an example), please report it to a moderator via Private message and we shall take care of it.
- Accusations without proof
Again, this is another issue that will result in account suspension/ban for those accusing members of scamming without proof. Members trades are dependant on their reputation. Posting in someones trade thread or Hall of Shame with "XXX scammed me please ban/DO NOT TRADE WITH!" is not acceptable. When posting accusations, there are certain rules. First off, post it in the Hall of Shame section, ruining somebody's trade thread with an accusation is not fair and it is not the correct section. Post your evidence in screenshot form of MSN conversations/money transfer accounts i.e. Paypal. If you have no evidence to give, do not post an accusation as it warrants a 30 day ban. If you are adament you were scammed and cannot provide evidence, PM a moderator and they will briefly look into it. Members will not be banned if there is no evidence found, it is your responsibility to collect data on account transactions.
-Posting msn/aim/email outside PM system
This lack of respect applies towards the staff. We are working extremely hard to create the largest, safest trading website on the internet. While we lack the former, this boils down to our strict set of rules. We have provided as much information as can possibly be given on not to post contact information outside the PM system.
Why? Because it forces scammers to lose anonymity, giving us the edge over them. Unoficially statistically speaking, we have a lower scam rate than other trading sites simply because we force scammers to register accounts, post on the forums and contact other members. Other trading sites allow members to openly post email addresses allowing scammers to just add their email without the hassle of registering accounts under new emails & IP's. This is one of the main reasons why we are a safer public trading website, and we will suspend/ban members who post emails openly, for their own protection.
- Abusive behaviour
A smaller minority of members have been sending abusive messages either through private messages or in peoples threads. Light profanity will be ignored, everyone is human. Heavy use of profanity in an abusive context against members is highly unnaceptable, we are not a website for slanging matches. Members who become abusive will be warned via private message or openly by a moderator/admin, any further abusive messages will result in account suspension/ban.
Respect is earned, not given. Remember that.
