MMORPG's a chore?
I remember reading a review a while ago. It made some reference to World of Warcraft being a chore. I'm sure most of you have heard this statement before. World of Warcraft, at some stages of the game does require a lot of grinding, and can be quite boring and unsatisfying (I'm not saying that this is just with WoW, I mean take a look at RuneScape). Even the quests can be rather repetitive some time (Kill 8 of monster x's, collect 8 y's of monster x's, etc.), but honestly, thats not what I play for. I play for 40-man raids, I play for the moment when everyone on your guild is in a good mood, I play for soloing those dungeons you used to find so hard.
Sometimes MMORPG's do feel like chores, when you know when you go on, you are gonna have to grind too level x, it is a bit offputting. And for people that want instant action and epic fights constonatly, its more than offputting. You may say game's are supposed to be fun, and if you ever feel like its a chore, it shouldn't be a game. Though this is true, I would much prefer to play any MMORPG than any FPS, Action, RPS, or any other genre.
The main thing is, if you don't like it, don't play it, other people do.

You want the uber PvP gear, you gotta grind/farm honor or arena points.
You want the uber PvE gear, you gotta grind/farm instances.
You want the the semi-uber crafted gear, you gotta grind/farm the mats.
None of that is new, WoW's been that since day one mostly. But what is new is:
You wanna get gold, you gotta grind/farm the quests.
Blizzard managed to turn questing into nothing more than a grind and farm session. Repeating daily quests. Yes. My dream come true. Lets do the same quests day after day and get the exact same reward every single day. Woot.
Not saying its all a chore, or pointless. I still play. But it seems like imagination is a rapidly diminishing commodity with MMO devs.
