Due to the unnatural amount of phishing scams going on as of late, i have decided to use the full force of prevention options at my disposal. I have started doing this, just yesterday and i will continue to do it from here on out.
When i see a Phishing post and i feel it is a fishing post. i will do the following
- Trace your IP
- Back trace your IP
- Ping to verify the data
- Cross check it with Whois and Whois IP
- Check the DNS records
- Notify your ISP and request a complaint for for internet Fraud and theft
- Send the corresponding emails and data and my Mod panel logs to the ICCC and file a complaint thru them.
Granted you will, at the least, loose your service thru your ISP. That can be replaced. If your a kiddie at home,good luck explaining it to your parents, i somehow doubt they will be nice about having a fraudulent thief living with them.
The ICCC complain will put the wheels in motion. If your are has been deemed a high internet crime area ( Your ISP or county/city) then they will probably look into it and pass it along to the local authorities. If you have several complaints thru the ICCC then i can promise you will get a visit one day and that will lead to court and jail for something as stupid as trying to steal a video game account. now, some people may be laughing, thinking " WOW, the inTrAWEb police are getting us for a RS2 account worth 100.00,roflzorz" and that would be where you are wrong :)
The act of taking items, virtual or tangible, from other people , across state,country borders is not a misdemeanor :)
Those of you, you wee little thieves, this is your call to move on. Most sites are content with just banning and moving on.go use their services. I am not content with that. It takes me 30 minutes to do all of the above and it makes me feel good to do so. All of the people who get ripped off and are to be ripped off one day, what i do stems that or possibly prevents that. So, my job is to Moderate, and i am doing that.
So, last call. move on or keep it up. I will still be here doing what needs to be done.
