in short....he wants the trademark so nobody else can use it, and screwing over the developers of it. which he has nothing to do with. and he's claiming he's doing this to stop illegal copies of ROMs floating around.

I don't see what the problem is. He talks about putting emotions aside, but if they can't legally protect their copyright then they really can't say much.

On another note...are ROM's really thousands of dollars?? If so, thats news to me.

buying a legal copy is $2/license. http://www.starroms.com/


And the big deal is, MAME is the name given to the emulator from the original author when it was originally invented, and is protected under a license. I'm assuming either GPL or LGPL.


that being said, this new guy is trying to trademark a name that's already licensed and protected.


That's like me going out and trademarking the name "corvette" and telling GM to f**k off and selling it to the world as "I dont want other people creating cars called corvette"

Then they need to start kicking some legal ass. If the copyrights are in place then those 2nd market people are gonna get raped in court.
