Um, don't get me wrong, but … how does this work, exactly, form the technical standpoint? Is it just about getting the right animations, or what? Because I see stories of people purchasing this or that kind of genitals, for huge amounts of SL… If someone could enlighten me on this touchy issue, I'd be grateful.
Oh, and spare me the birds & bees jokes, please!

Well, there are two main parts of the "somewhat touchy issue".
First, you've got poseballs, scripted objects that, when you interact with them, make your avatar assume certain poses, with adjustable facing, speed, etc. This kind of **** does not require genitals of any kind.
Second, you have genitalia models, which can be of varying degrees of complexity (and price, of course). If you purchase those, they enhance your experience in a number of ways (sounds, particle emission, etc.).
For more details, go to mmorgy.com and do some searching.
