anyone know anything about xmf files? I downloaded a copy of Age of Empires from DC but its in xmf format and the person I got it from isnt responding.

Might not be an xmf file at all. Might be an ISO.
File extensions are there to tell you what kind of file it is (but not really anymore since Windows 95 came out) and to tell Windows what program to open the file with. If you name a mp3 file with a txt extension, it will still play. If you name a doc file with a pdf extension, you can still open it up in Word. Remember, it's what's on the inside that counts! (literally)
Try opening it in WinISO or a similar program, since it most likely is an ISO. Then try WinRar (anything else is just wrong). If they don't work then I may need to write a program to see what the beginning of the file looks like. Usually there's a series of characters in there that tell you what kind of file it is, like exe files beginning with MZ.

I was told yb the guy when I finally got in touch with him to use a program called gamesx copy but I ended up getting a working bin off irc by the time he responded
anyone wana play AoE:RoR?
