...why I hate new Metallica, love old Metallica, and dislike a lot of new rock.
It's because old Metallica had personality to their music. You could sing along with the guitar solos! In fact, it was the music I looked forward to, not the singing. Today's music seems to be centered on the singing and not the music. It's like the music is just the background.
When you think of old Metallica, do you think of James Hetfield's singing, or the incredible music? When you think of Linkin Park, do you think of the music or do you think of that one guy with the piercings and that other guy who raps?
I think "...And Justice For All" the album really drives this point home. Now I realize why it is one of my alltime favorite albums.

there was much anger in and justice, best tour too..i loved those days
kinda know what ya mean too..they kinda have gone downhill from there on
i still dig metallica, but not as much as i did when justice and before came out

I dunno, I always liked Hetfield's voice. I think he sounds great even in the new stuff.

"The Unnamed Feeling" may be the worst song I have ever heard in my life. It's unthinkable that they actually released that song =/

I can't really comment on thier new stuff. St. Anger is the only song I've heard, not a great song, but Hetfield sounded like Hetfield, and that's a good thing hehe.

Hehe whats funny is I like some of Incubuses new shit, but their old shit was horrid. Yet again, I still think their new shit is pretty bad.

like how far back? They started out as a kick ass jazz/funk band with 'Fungus Amongus' then released a godlike album called 'Science'. If you haven't heard that album you should give it a chance. Make yourself was good and morning view was so-so. I give them total credit for live performances though. Extremely good performace live 3 times in a row for me.

Lyrics are important, but I need the music to back them up. Of course, with black metal I can't understand one f*****g word anyways. Download Daemonarch's "Corpus Hermeticum".

Some bands I only like for the music. (Metallica, Abba, Sevendust)
Some bands I only like for the lyrics. (Incubus, Delerium)
Most bands I like only because of the singers voice, and couldn't give a shit about the lyrics or music. (Depeche Mode, Evanescence)
Some bands I like for all of them. (Tool, Alice in Chains)
Some bands just have a different focus.

What makes me angry about black/death metal is they change one aspect, one minute thing and call it a different type of music.
Some off the the top of my head are Grind Core and Noise Core. Both in the deathmetal category but somehow both called something different.
Although I hate that type of music. Animosity is legit. Check them out, they are a local band here and all of the members are 16/17. Very talented, yet the vocals are almost impossible to understand.

I thought the same thing after the first and second listen. Then it started to change for me, and I couldn'st stop listening to it for a few weeks. Well, except for "Zee Devil" that is. That song sucks.
It has some really great songs. I like most of the slower songs, though. Here in my room, Southern Girl, etc. I guess I'm a f*g for sappy songs.
Pistola is a great song. A good example of excellent writing with decent music to make, imo, a great song.

The diff names for pretty much the same type of music is because 'metalheads' seem to be extremely picky about their music. Some guys will only listen to the 'Raw' metal, like Ildjarn, others like the 'melodic' type ala dissection etc.. Its just names to help better identify what their sound is like i guess, i could care less what they call it, either i like it, or i dont.
I dont mind basicly every type of music, but i only actually 'Like' a few bands. I can listen to stuff like soilwork, but i dont 'like' it, i wouldnt put it on over better music like Dissection, Summoning or Amon Amarth

Yes, they are picky, and with good reason. With as little (none) airtime these bands get, when a new one comes out, they want to know what kind of music it is before they plop down 15 bucks for the cd.
