Cutting carbs is starving yourself any way you wanna say it. Banzai sounds like he's eating healthy tho so ++ for him. People by now know what is, and what isn't healthy. If you don't like weight gain as a side effect of aging then go exercise and stop eating butter, or extra sour cream, or excessive dairy intake.

cutting carbs IS NOT starving yourself thats a completely idiotic statement
a majority of the carbs in the average northamerican diet comes from refined carbs. reducing and eliminating refined carbs and just sticking to non refined carbs is a very healthy way to eat and makes sure you aren't hungry
Atkins and TSB diet are geared around the whole consept of NOT starving yourself.
clevinger your whole reasoning for why Atkins is bad for you is skewed
The Atkins diet is a healthy diet for those that use it properly...that means you don't live the rest of your life on phase 1 which by definition is an unbalanced diet ...intentionaly.
phase 1 is only ment to be 2 weeks in length..think of it as a dietary oil change
phase 2 has the person increasing their carb intake by 5 a week till they stop losing weight then they pull back 5 and maintain a weightlose of 1 or 2 pounds a week
phase3 and 4 has them increasing there carb intake by 10 a week till they start gaining weight then backing off 10..so they know what their limit is before gaining
from that they can eat a very healthy diet of vegtables...meats dairy and some whole grains...just no sugar and very limited refined flours
I dont feel like posting a ton of links from diet boards but from all the reading i've done some basic facts are
1. all the atkins naysayers have no medical proof to back up their claims that atkins is bad for you
2. Atkins has provided numerous health studies that show that a low refined carb diet is good for you.

everyone i've known that has done the Atkins diet has lost a ton of weight "fast" . Seems like a very easy and simple way to lose weight.
Flip side of that coin is i have yet to see anyone stay on the diet for good and in most cases not only get the weight back "fast" but normaly a few extra pounds as well ....
I've worked in an affluent neighborhood steakhouse for the last five years. Large portion of them come on once or twice a week so i know most of the customers very well and thier diets they try. The only two things i have ever seen work for any of them is gastric surgery and a complete and total lifestyle change .
I am not a nutritionist by any means . these are just my observations
