I've never heard such a thick assed accent from anyone I've met from NC.

It's true i hve a thick southern accent.
I live in NC and so has all of my familly for the last 100 years or more. No inbreeding in my familly that would cause deformation not an accent. I rather have a southern accent anyday of the week then one of those new york once or wisconsin ones

I wasn't aware that people from Wisconsin have an accent. Iowa doesn't, Michigan (mostly... yay Yoopers) doesn't, Minnesota doesn't...

Haha, I can pick out somebody from Minnesota or Wisconsin easily. I grew up in Montana and we used to get tons of deer hunters from Minnesota. You could tell in 3 words where they were from. Ever seen Fargo? That's a little bit of an exaggeration, but they definitely have an accent.

lol i've got a bunch of friends from minnesota, and they hide their accents well now, after being in washington so long.
but when they get together, you start to notice it, and when they get drunk together, it's just raging.

Well, the Fargo accent is an exaggeration of Upper Michigan too and I didn't think most people talked like that, at least those who didn't live in the back 40.
I briefly dated someone from Wisconsin and she talked 'normal,' and I even asked about it because I was a little surprised... alas she said she sounded like everyone else.
My bad, I guess, although I think we're more on to a 'northern hick' thing...

I guarantee you've heard people say "you betcha" plenty of times. I never noticed it when I lived in MT. But after spending a few years in the southwest and california, it's very noticeable when I go back up there.
Lots of people up north say "eh" like a canadian also, I say it myself quite a bit in fact and I left Montana 8 years ago. We had a guy that came out for a residency from Misourri a few months ago at work. As soon as I heard him talk I asked if he was from Minnesota. Turned out he was originally from Wisconsin, and an electronics engineer, not the least bit redneck.
And Fargo is on the Minnesota border, most of North Dakota doesn't talk like that.
