Considering buying a premodded xbox, but I am having troubles finding a 1.6 BIOS (Evox m8.1.6?).

Anyone know where I could snag this?

chatroom #xbins on any efnet IRC server

you need to download flashFXP FTP client .. and follow instructions to log into their ftp server after getting authorization in their #xbins IRC room

Just curious, but why buy a premodded one? It's just some soldering and a basic understanding of things like FTP etc. You can get the chip for $50 - 60ish and most of the premodded ones I've seen start at $250+

its not that easy

you need to find an xbox thats 1.0-1.5 (preferably 1.1-1.5 because the 1.0 boxes have the holes you need to solder into filled with solder)

a 1.6 xbox is a hell and a half and not worth soldering (these are the xboxs that are sold today everywhere .. its actually hard to find one that isnt 1.6 anymore)

i found my 1.0 on ebay luckily .. the guy told me the serial number and from it i deduced it had to be before 1.6 .. and luckily i got the xbox and wasnt scammed

I'll bite, how is it not that simple? All the walkthroughs I've seen at least for the Xenium Ice chip for the 1.6 just require some basic soldering skills. Granted it's not as easy as the solderless installs for 1.0 - 1.5 but what am I missing?

there are 5 separate very tiny solder points in the 1.6

theres only 1 for the 1.0-1.5

theres also special shit you have to do when soldering in those 5 points that involves more soldering

the 1.6 is infinitely harder to solder .. and the possibility of irreparable failure goes from nil to substantial (for a reasonably skilled solderer with standard equipment)

not to mention that if you do solder and it doesnt work its much harder to go in and fix it because any one of those 5 spots could not be working right, whereas with the 1.0-1.5 you pretty much know whats going on

just trust me on this, its much .. much harder

they make a solderless adaptor for 1.6s?

i havnt heard of one

the 1.0-1.5 solderless adapters are terrible because they keep becoming offset if you move the xbox at all, in some cases people had to weigh them down to get them to stay connected

if you check out the forums you get a bunch of people with that problem, thats why i opted for the best choice, the pin header solder instal

Even the solderless ones you still have do do the pin head install of the 1.6's

Really 1.6 isn't all that hard. I decided to just say f**k it all, and do it myself. Yeah there were some s****y parts to it, like soldering a 1/4inch 30guage wire to two points.

I hadn't soldered for a couple years, so I found a old s****y motherboard and practiced on it for about an hour before I got started. Soldering in the pinheader took about 25 minutes, including haveing to debraid one or two places. Rebuilding the LPC is what took me some serious time since I didn't want to f**k it up. From unscrewing the first torx bolt, to powering on the finished xbox it probably took me about 2.5 hours, not great but not horrible for my first one.

In the end I saved $50 and 6 hours of driving vs taking it to someone to have it done, abd $100 or more vs buying a pre-modded one online.

It's weird that I don't mind spending 9+ hours writing my own backup scripts for home networks but am really put off at the idea of doing this much tinkering and soldering. Confused
