I had the pleasure of messing with one the other day... the controller doesn't suck as much as people think it's going to.
All in all I like the design of this new one.

I've been wondering this for a while now. Millions of people have the equivalent of this new Xbox (perhaps minus the GPU) sitting in the living room. All Sony/Microsoft is offering you that you probably don't have is a controller. For $500.

actually, they dont. Your pc has lagged far behind the power of the new xbox and the ps3. How many of you have a 3 core, multithreaded, 64bit 3.5Ghz processor? Also, your sli video card is now obsolete. Finally, no one makes games for the pc anymore

Consoles are huge compared to the PC gaming world. A friend of mine who works at a major gaming company told me recently that "85% of computer gaming sales are console/handheld games. PCs are only 15% of the market"

Consoles - Put game in, turn on machine. play.
PCs. Turn on PC. Put game in. Install. patch game. patch video drivers. patch directx. run game. play.
obviously that doesnt happen every time. but sometimes you just want to play

It's also easier to sit at a single machine with your friends and play a game than it is to sit with your friends at a single computer.

Consoles are better gaming platforms than PCs, mainy due to their stability and nearly identical hardware from box to box. Most problems with PC games are due to drivers or odd hardware more than bad code.

Exactly. When a console game is programmed it only has to account for the hardware in that console. Computer games have to be more diverse than that.

I'll give it to you that due to uniformity, it's much easier to code for console games, and also that they tend to perform better, because they only perform one task, but with all the new consoles having a hard drive and also network capability, days of patching and such will soon be upon you.
I don't currently have a 3.5 ghz 64 bit processor, but in all honesty, it's the next thing on my list. I do have a 6800 ultra OC and 1 GB of ram, which I'd say is on par with consoles, and I have one Major advantage that the consoles haven't dealt with yet. TVs have low resolution compared to my monitor, so no matter how fast or good the system, it can only be as good as the 21" tube TV you're running it on. In order to equal my monitor, you'd probably have to get a HD TV, or maybe even a plasma, I'm not exactly sure. What I do know is that most TVs won't run any higher than like 1280x960. Meanwhile, I can happily run at 1600x1200.
Also, your xbox can't currently check email, do word processing, surf the internet, or do a lot of things a computer can, and it's not much cheaper. There's a small reduction in quality between my comp and the xbox 360, and my comp hasn't been upgraded (other than the GPU) in a year and a half, meanwhile, the xbox 360 is still at least 6 months away. Now, portability and multi-user access is a major plus for the consoles, but I really don't see why that should make them so much better than Computer format that game companies have just stopped producing games for the computer.
