The scenario:
You recieve enough money to put yourself fully on lifesupport for 70 years, with the stipulation that you would be jacked into the net fulltime to live in whatever reality you chose to create (ever read otherland?), the possibilities are endless but of course its not real is it? or is it?
Would you forgo everythign you have, all your relationships, all your possessions to do that? To choose your reality?

No, wouldn't even consider it.
Actually, that would be rather pathetic, running away like that.

No, there is nothing that is equal to being with another person. Not even my own imagination.

Yes. It would be like being God. My family would "disapprove", but ah well!

actually, I feel that a matrix style scenario is really the only hope for humanities continued existance. Just hope we can get to it before the other possible outcome

I'm just not particularly interested in alot of the crap that comes along with the good in life (and to be frank the good turns in to bad so often it's annoyin).

Otherland was good.
I couldn't stay like that. I'd have to come out and live my life.

i wouldn't. it may seem great at first, but you would be limited by yourself. you could only think of so much to experience. you could do some surreal things, but it would get old eventually. maybe if i didn't know it was a fake world and was a billionare...
makes me think of ucb.. heh
the truth is.. i've been raping you in my basement for the last 10 years..

Since it's not for an eternity I could easily come up with things to do. I mean like do the star wars thing for 10 to 20, dragonlance for 10 to 20, 10 to 20 of being an extremely wealthy person. If it was fully up to me in theory I could project the life I'm living now and have it play out the way I want it too. Or hell go back relive stuff you felt you didn't do correctly.
Unless of course you were stuck in one reality period for the 70 years (wasn't clear on that). In which case i may haveta really think through what i'd pick.
I'm not depressed, just haven't had anything happen to me yet that makes me think staying here is the best thing.
Perhaps if i fall in love, or figure out a passion in life that will change my mind. So far though I'm wandering aimlessly, accomplishing nothing, and taking a ton of shit for it. ^^

As an addendum to what I said, I would do it as long as it all felt as real as life. Can you taste the food? Can you feel the seabreeze? Does your soulmate think and love and act like a woman would?
It would be great for a long time, but after thinking about it, I would still be lonely. Since I had total control there would always be an air of illusion to everything.

if you had total control in the real world would it be just as bad?
(which leads me to the idea)
being omniscient and all powerful for all eternity isnt all that great after all

Are we talking a reality of the scale of realism like the matrix or something as limited as the VR worlds of today like eq?

otherland is an EXCELLENT series of books.
jacked into worlds like that could be fun or could be boring. i certainly wouldnt want to depend on the f*****s who created it though.

The pertinent question would be: Did a Sony Online Entertainment company do the programming? If so, f**k no.

Given that the 'possibilities are endless', you could trick your mind into thinking that time does not exist, and given that it is your own personal dream, you could take a second of that 70 year 'real life' and never 'die'.
But, still, since it's your own dream, you know the perils of real life, and would know that this is all a created scenerio. That means that others actions, dialogues, etc would all be created by your own perception of them and it would get boring and un-eventful.
But, then again, I don't think having **** with the countless celebs would be such a bad thing.
So, what it all boils down to, is this..nicely rephrased for you..
Could you handle a never-ending stint of ****?
Take it as you like..!
