I think it is f****d up, there is an article that touches on this on ESPN.com today.
Baseball tried to fix the All Star game after the tie last year. So they made it mean something, giving homefield advantage to the league that wins. So this year, a wild card team (Boston) gets 4 home games, including the all-important first 2, while the team with the best record in baseball only gets 3 home games. In my humble opinion that situation sucks ass.
Ideally I would say give home field to the team with the best record, but I guess that could cause problems for scheduling because you would not know who is playing until 2 or 3 days before the Series starts. I guess a return to the old method of alternating years is a fair balance, but then that doesn't prevent the current situation from happening either. So I guess it just won't ever be fair then!!

it does, it determines whether you get into the play-offs or not.
