So, I have finally started going the gym. Time to get off the lazy computer guy ass and do something. I'm not in bad shape by appearances, but I am in practice as it were.

Anyways, problem I am having is my abs. I hurt my back years ago and since then situps/traditional ab workouts tend to cause alot of pain in my lower back. Any suggestions for an alternative?

I'd work out your lower back and strengthen that part first. otherwise you will more than likely just end up hurting it again and then you wont be able to work anything out.

I dislocated and broke my arm a few years back in a motorcycle accident. a year later I was bench pressing 315. You just have to work it back.

if lying on ur back is the problem, u can werk ur abs in the seated position with the lat pulldown machine, just sit back to it and go-go crunch-a-thon

do reverse crunches on your stomach to stregnthen your lower back and/or deadlifts start off with small weight also do just alot of situps as much as you can the stronger your stomach the better your back will feel. You could also think about getting a better mattress on your bed and going to a chiropractor all of the above will help.

Your back muscles and ab muscles are all connected. Doing one and not the other is detrimental. Do both.

ya to what spirit said and if youre still having pains problems with you back when doing sit ups go see a chiropractor asap and get that fixed up cause thats not right at all!

if i can come back from crackin/shifting my tailbone and popping three discs out in my smaller back and years later having 0 pain im sure you can as well if ya work through it properly.

yes and no. If his back severely atrophied from his injury, he'd want to start with that, and not so much abs, depending on the extent of his injuries. or so said my doctor. at least that was in my case. but as I'm finding out as I get older, doctors arent always right.

ohh i just remembered something *thanks desa*
talk to your doc tizi and go see a chiropractor for a consultation/advice before doing any exercises but i recalled to start me off mine used the pad zapping thingies on my back and stomach together to get the muscles back in proper condition then did realignments and adjustments accordingly then i was on the rowing machine.

but ask and consult with your doc/chiro about what would be best for you before just jumping in and doing stuff that might s***w ya up and make things worse.

only thing i miss about that recovery time and that stupid annoying brace was i had perfect posture for a very very long time after.

oh ya, ask about rolfing (no not rofling).
