England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a "bone-house" and reuse the grave.

When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive.

So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell.

Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the "graveyard shift") to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be "saved by the bell" or was considered a "dead ringer."

Don't know if all of what you posted is true but they did design coffins with bells attached at the surface, particularly during the plagues, because of the haste taken to bury people. Sometimes due to that haste they wouldn't take the time to make sure the people were actually dead.

As long as they kept Mr Belding and Screech, I would agree 100%.

Yeah it's true. They would bury people who were actually alive because the flasks people drank hard A out of were made with iron, and people ingested large ammounts of iron with the alcohol and went into comas that could last a week. This is why Jewish people hold a "wake", and why they had bells attached to people in graveyards. And of course to help people overcome their fears of being burried alive.

That modest mouse cd really sucked. The only good song is Float On and the one before it. The other songs are too "noisy" and are just an orgy of different instruments thrown together.
