Thought Verant was under Sony at the time, I could be wrong, it's not something I've studied =p
Either way, Sony has been around MMORPG's a lot longer than Blizzard.

If by "under" you mean "a totally different company which was paid as an outside contract" then yeah.

mcquaid left shortly before the release of SoL, the last of the core team was pretty much gone by the release of POP.. afaik verant was a deriavative of 989 and Sony disolved the companys funding when they brought all their mmo projects under the SOE umbrella.
fact remains, the guys who made everquest do not work at sony anymore, even if they still had the original trademark company name producing EQ2 it would mean nothing because they dont have the people. People make games, not companies.

Blizzard has more experience in making SUCCESSFUL FUN TO PLAY games then SOE ever will.
Has a single Blizzard game ever bombed? No, know why? Because they have a f*****g clue as to whats fun and whats not.
I will never buy another SOE game for as long as I live, not after how they screwed PlanetSide up as badly as they did, taking a MMOFPS and trying to turn it into a RPG because of a massive newb whinefest (waaa one person wiped my entire platoon out because we're newbs).
