World of Warcraft is the best game ever! I think that this game is a grind for any other present, past or future. World of Warcraft is such huge game that it has more members then many countries have population. I think that this is something that will not be replaced soon. But I hear different opinions as well. WoW is not a grind?

I am one of those people who thinks that World of Warcraft is not a grind and I think that even now there are games which are better then this one. One of the first that comes to my mind is Lord of the Rings Online. I also think that Pirates of the burning sea can be one of the games that will be better then World of Warcraft in the future. I would also like to say that mere number of players is not telling us anything at all. There are a lot of people registered at any game, but the real strength of any game are those active players and their number is not ever the same as the umber of registered players.

its less of a grind compared to many other MMOs
there are instaces for every lvl and like 1000s of quest so you can switch between those to lvl and if not you can get a 70 to lvl you up.
also you can share quest so you can play with friends ever while questing so i think blizz made it pretty fun over all

This game is as much of a grind as most mmorpgs. That is to reach max level at least. They have lots more things to do once you reach max lvl though than most games out there.

If you think wow is a grind game, try Lineage II.

WoW is DEFINITELY a grind, as are almost all MMOs. But really, it's all about the payoff. The only reason hitting 70 is such a great feeling is because it took you so much time to do so. That said, almost all the fun stuff happens at 70 anyway...

grind-
1. to wear, smooth, or sharpen by abrasion or friction; whet: to grind a lens.
2. to reduce to fine particles, as by pounding or crushing; bray, triturate, or pulverize.
3. to oppress, torment, or crush: to grind the poor.
4. to rub harshly or gratingly; grate together; grit: to grind one's teeth.
5. to operate by turning a crank: to grind a hand organ.
6. to produce by crushing or abrasion: to grind flour.
7. Slang. to annoy; irritate; irk: It really grinds me when he's late.

wow is a huge grind
there are other games coming out like conan and whatnot that use a lot of things from wow, and they are smart in doing that
any game maker that expands on this with diff graphics and whatnot could out weigh wow in the future

WoW will probably last for a long time still but also with new games people will become less attached and eventually decay.

WoW is far from a grind...There are plenty of quests you can do to lvl 1 - 70 which take away from the grind feeling. Once you hit 70 the real fun begins with PVP and 5/10/25 man content

WoW is very grind oriented. The closest game to non-grind is guild wars really. Mainly because you hit 20 fast and everything else is optional.
In WoW is always an arms race for gear, and their treadmill is nothing but grind to keep you subed.

JpBaby made a good point about the leveling being less of a grind than most other games, but that is really a small % of your time spent in the game. Once you hit 70, everything is a grind... gearing up for raids, farming honor/arena points, reputations, epic mount cost... they are all timesinks put intentionally into the game by Blizzard. It's a business for them -- not a game...

After nearly 4 years of playing, its damn hard to even try to level a new alt, so yeah it feels like a damn long grind nowadays.
All i do on mine now is raid hardcore and thats pretty much it, might try AoC soon and Warhammer when it comes out maybe.

WoW could have been a bigger grind if it had a harsher penalty for dying. I remember playing FFXI and not having the time for a party I would go solo for a hour. If I was unlucky enough to die then I just lost that hour's work. If you die in WoW you lose a few gold and less than 3 mins running back to your corpse.

Grind for what? Levels? Gear? Keeping up?
And compared to what?
WoW has the best "grind" of any game I've played to date.... But there is still some grinding. Especially with PvP gear.

Sometimes it definitely feels like a second job. The thought of spending all that time to level someone to 70 and then have to do all those extra things to epic out makes me never want to start a new toon EVER.

the thing about MMOs is that you really need to enjoy the time you spend playing... play with friends, chat, whatever... cuz everything you earn will just be made easier/trivial to obtain later on. so yea grinding sucks, but play with rl friends or make some new ones and then you at least have some memories to look back on when all of this is dead and gone
