|
|

Looks like there's an estimation out for when the first expansion is going to be released...
*drumrolls*
late...2006.
The dev later on retracted with a lenghty replay basically saying he has no clue, but given that he was a developer on the expansion, he'd have to be familiar with the deadline. Probably just said it because he got summoned to the boss.
So, with EQ2's first expanion around the corner, there'll probably be at least 2 more adventure packs and another expansion before WoW releases. Damn is it great to have content and not clear the same zone over and over
Ohh - EQ1's expansion is out soon as well. Lots of new raid content, AAs, new "monster" missions allowing you to take the role of mobs (while gaining benefits to advance your main char while doing so) and intelligent items with increasing stats as you have them equipped.
But, yeah - this is the WoW board... so - MC farming for another 15 months? And any estimates on how many days it'll take to beat the bosses of the expansion?
I'd say let's place wages on the real release date, but we all know it'll be closer to x-mas '07 than '06.
here's the original text:
| Quote: |
Grimwell:
With WoW as a clear success, an expansion is a no-brainer to follow up on the success. What are the plans for this?
Shawn:
An expansion is planned, not in 2005, possibly in late 2006 barring unforeseen chaos. Work is already going on for the expansion, and it's going good. What to look for?
Blizzard is good at polishing what we do well. The WoW expansion will be like other game expansions in that there will be new characters, items, spells, etc. but it will have the Blizzard twist.
Grimwell:
What range of levels will the content cover in this expansion? Will it focus only on the high level characters, or will there be something for everyone at every level?
Shawn:
While the full range of levels is covered, it won't be equal; the support will be proportional to the population of the game, so it will tip to the high end of the game (as most veteran players will be of high level).
Any new quest arcs will fit into existing areas and arcs. Since WoW takes players on a deliberate path through the levels in specific areas, any new quests need to take advantage of these areas and pair up with existing content instead of making new areas for the same level range and moving or splitting up the player population.

Blackwing is already implemented, and these are probably going to be released in the same fashion, now kindly go suck a giant EQ 2 Towers/Gates/Arch OF Fire/Water/Ice/Uranium c**k.

LOL
I feel the love.
All I know is that WoW still had more high-end content than EQ Pre-Kunark. Go go Nagafen and Lady Vox once a week or @ server reboot. Racing ftw!

I really liked camps in EQ. Not camping items, but finding that rare level 40 mob on a 5 minute timer surrounded by a bunch of lowbie trash. It was really neat to have that experience.

Oh - I'm sorry.. I meant working raid content. You know, stuff that isn't bugged. I'm sure those other zones will get released in the same fashion - bugged as hell and worthless in terms of gear upgrades.
But hey - you can be one of the cool kids and be happy, because it's free. Much cooler to have useless content free, than pay $4 for something that actually works. Then again, $45m/month from subscriptions doesn't exactly make it "free" content either...
Deal with the fact that blizzard couldn't care less about raiding, because they have hordes of battletards drooling over the presence of a BLUE [BLU PLZ RD!!]. So kindly go back to your murlock porn until Blizzard delivers on their promisses... you, too, can be a murlock in World of Warcraft 2.

Granted that WoW has a lot of content on the horizon. But as the game is right now and at LEAST for the next couple of months. The end game is pretty s****y.
I don't see Zul'Gurub remedying that for more than 2-3 weeks since it's not mean't to be harder than MC.
Ahn'Qiraj in 1.9 is going to be badass but that's a LONG ways away.
Plus their release of BWL went pretty s****y with c**k blocking doors and quick fixes to make mobs harder because you can tell they did very little to test them.

As opposed to paying for EQ's raid content, which is never bugged? =P

Hi Lerra
I don't need to play a game every day to know that WoW has little raid content. It's actually the reason I quit - I thought they couldn't bring out content fast enough with their current patch schedule.
But hey, if you think 2 years per expansion is ok... by then Blizzard will only have made $1bn (not counting the profit from box sales)
And I know this isn't Blizzard's fault per se, Vivendi is dictating the timing. (maybe that's a reason why some of the original devs left? Like the original EQ team left SoE to form Sigil?)
From a customer's point of view that doesn't really make a difference though. You see, with the kind of money they pull in from subscriptions ($45m per month) there is no excuse for slow patch cycles and most certainly none for queues of any kind. The attitude, however, seems to be that of min/maxing profits instead of providing a quality service. (Yes, every company is out to make a profit - but there're different ways to go about it.)
Why release huge patches every 2-3 months and an expansion only after 2 years? Simple: it keeps people hooked. How many are waiting on the next content patch, hoping the new zone will keep them busy for a while? How many can't wait for fixes 2 patches down the road?
That's how you keep people subscribed. It's the proverbial carrot on the stick. And the expansion is just that, except it's a bigger carrot and it builds hype a year before its release.
The difference to EQ is that EQ's carrot is that of loot, not content. (at least for those at the high-end. For many others it is the end zone of an expansion) Surely not that of a patch expected to fix everything including hunger in Africa.
I'm not saying it's not a smart business move, but this isn't a board targeted at Vivendi shareholders.

He looks like a woman. And, chances are, he thinks like one too; in other words, he doesn't think.
He sure is good at licking Sony's shaft though, that much is true.

I love WoW but they do tend to have more bugs and less hot fixes then Sony..
Drinking bug in AV is a PRIME example.. This shit should have been fixed 2 months ago..
