Ok, so I get to have a webpage with my cablemodem package...they direct me to go to Tucows to download some FTP software but, of course, XP is not listed as one of the platforms.
I went to Tucows and hunted around, but there are 300 entries that are returned on a search for "Windows XP FTP" or "FTP Windows XP"...
So...hepl!
Thanks guys

If you just want to move a file or two and don't want to go to a lot of hassle, open a DOS window ("Start", "Run", type "cmd" in the box) and type "ftp whatever.yourisp.com", where whatever.yourisp.com is wherever your isp tells you to ftp to to get to your webspace.
Or in internet explorer, go to "ftp://whatever.yourisp.com", and it should ask you to log in.

XP has a built in FTP program in windows explorer. It's not the best in the world for moving and downloading alot of stuff, but for updating a webpage it's not too shabby.

Call me old fashioned, but that's what I do 90% of the time
At least I know it's always there...
btw out of curiousity I checked to see what my ISP recommends - they suggest WSFTP.

I only have 10M of space and was just going to try my hand at making a webpage. Not even sure if it's just a fill in form or what...
I will have to hunt around for the FTP thing in Windows. I did download the SmartFTP program mentioned above, but if I put in my isp address (ftp://cablelynx.com), then it makes my username and pw anon and won't let me log in.
If I just put in cablelynx.com, then it accepts my user name and pw--i think--but I get a message saying that it can't create guest settings or something like that.
I will call them tomorrow and ask about that part of it.
Thanks for all the help, guys

most ftp clients today recognize ftp://cablelynx.com as a URL, and derives all the login information from that one line.. so if you put like ftp://principesa:password@cablelynx.com as the url, it will log in with just that line. Like i said previously, flashfxp is a damn good program. Supports resuming downloads and uploads, and has a really nice layout. It's crackable fo sho. ;0
