I have

Depends, are you handy with a jigsaw?

pcmods.com sells kits if don't want to buy and cut the plex or acrylia yourself, actually I think they sell case sides already done for most name brand cases.

Nope

I have and I seriously suggest no one allows you to handle sharp objects. That is all.

I'd have to disagree with you Minion, maybe we'll get lucky and Paden will kill himself when he tries to mod the case.

Tons of sites make them now so you can buy a prefab.

If you want to make one yourself, I suggest practicing first on an old PC case. Draw on paper what you want and then stencil it onto the case with pencil. To cut out your shape, use a Dremel tool and nothing else. To smooth the edges of your shape after the cut, either use a metal sandpaper (you might have to touch up the edges with paint if you do it this way) or else buy some rubber edging.

How do people keep case windows from opening up big RF emission holes? Is there some sort of transparent metallic coating you can spray on them or something? Or do people just not worry about it?

What are you worried about? RF causing data errors in your PC? or do you think your computer is radiating something? PCs will run fine with the side of the case off, a window isn't going to cause any problems.

unless you are doing something where every bit of EMI shielding matters i wouldnt worry. the fans inside your computer generate more than you would get by leaving a hole open.

Some of the planes i work on have computers on them where every panel and fan is emi shielded. but it is used for monotoring sonorbuoys location, sound, water temperature etc.

Yeah, I guess it's OK at home. I was just thinking how much trouble we go through at work to meet EMI requirements, the thought of cutting a giant hole in the shielding seemed bizarre. But actually at home the only thing I have EMI trouble with is my crappy Sony cordless phone/answering machine, which Sony blames on EMI from my computer. When I lied and said I didn't have a computer, they blamed it on my refrigerator Smile
