I setup my wireless network yesterday. I was picking up some signals from my neighbors, and of course none of them had any security setup at all. I want to be sure mine is top notch though.

WPA Preshared Key (Nonsense 64 character: ju%1#Kk k=gk32^2H...... )
AES Algorithm
MAC Filtering (Permits only my MACs)
Disabled SSID Broadcast
No DHCP

That pretty much covers it, right?

Is that a 64-character key, or a 64-bit key? You don't want 64 bits.

yeah its locked down. As long as you have MAC addy filtering on, yer GTG. 64 or 128 bit encryption doesnt really matter in this setup.

I connected to my neighbors network to see how bad it was. He had most of his harddrive shared over Windows. And the default password on the router still. =P

It's 64 characters. There wasn't any options in the router for encryption level.

2 bits per character = 128 bit?

The Hotel I run has a wide open Wi-Fi network, no password protection...but it's not connected to our own network...it's just for guests use.

People other than pedophiles and criminals want privacy. Specifically, people trying to protect their data from criminals would like some privacy.

If a person is using your wireless network, they can do more than print "haha faaaaggg!" to your shared network printer, erase your files and such. They can sit there, silently, watching the passwords you transmit to your bank accounts.

Or, if you're too young / foolish to have a bank account, they can watch your treasured game login usernames and passwords.

I tried playing around with it. I can't get it to work though since there is no special driver available for my Adapter.
