they were talking about this on ESPN radio, about how American athletes dont seem to care as much about losing as they used to. Take Bode or Sasha Cohen, neither of them seemed to care at all.

Why is this?

Is it years or people telling you, "its not the end of the world to lose?"

Is it the fact that theyre doing what they love for a living, and know that they will continue to do so, therefore they dont care if they lose one event, depsite the fact the gold medal would bring them millions of dollars?

Personally, i think as soon as a person becomes a highly paid PROFESSIONAL athlete, their pure love of the sport is replaced by love of the almighty dollar. Sure, everyone would like to win, but if you can live VERY comfortably and be retired by 40 without ever winning a major championship, im sure most pro athletes are ok with that.

I care because I think that being a world class athlete is a part of most children's dreams growing up. I would like to think that those blessed with the ability to play sports professionally would give their full effort each and every time out, and care about the results.

I agree we should not support the Olympics, but for completely different reasons.

http://www.google.com/search?q=ioc+corruption

There was a story a few years back that the country that got picked to host the Olympics was based on which college gave the IOC's director's kid the best scholarship or some shit like that.

I guess i dont understand why the Winter Olympics are less popular than the Summer Games.

Winter games are ice and snow based.

Summer games are mostly track& field based.

Do most people sit around and watch track? Is track even on TV in the US?

my point is, you could argue exactly what you are arguing about for ANYTHING.

hello NFL, NBA, Nascar....

people are idiots, jerks, selfish, take things for granted. don't support it if you don't like it. i sure haven't missed anything by not watching the olympics. bode has a talent but, he barely uses it, he takes it for granted, and people STILL pay to watch him, buy nike products that promote him, and actually waste time thinking about him.

Sports for kids in the US are not for comeptition any more. My daughter went to a karate tournament and got a trophy just for showing up, WTF it's useless and it's the same with all other sports. These olympians are the same they showed up & did their part, so what if they didn't win.

Being PC and not hurting the feelings of the children that lost are ruining the US competitive spirit.

Liberals and their policies are ruining the US competitive spirit.

You proceeding from a false premise here. Bode isn't representing his country. He's representing himself. He happens to be an american, so that's his way to get to the Olympics.

Of course he's an american, he's on the US team you dolt.

How do canadians get on the canadian team? Maybe because they are canadian and meet whatever requirements are set for them to make the team?

He is an embarassment, just like the little b*****s on our skating team and their little b***h fight that we had to hear about for a week. People who are jackasses like bode miller and those other idiots don't deserve the honor of representing our country.

So, your point is that bode was a bad representative of the United States in a competition against other countries?

Duh.

We already know that.
