Specs I need are:
Video card >= nVidea 256MB RAM and decent GPU
Space >= 30gigs
RAM >= 1 gig
Battery life >= 15 minutes
USB ports >= 1
CPU speed >= 2.2GHz
For this setup it would be $900 for a PC, but is $3000 for a laptop.

Get a barebone with a good onboard video and go from there. I was looking at Asus systems a few months ago... they only had 128Mb Radeon 9700's though.

1k-1500 is ballpark for new with warranty.
laptops on ebay are the equivalent of buying it out of the back of some guy's van. no guarantees if it lemons. even if they say money-back it doesnt mean you'll get it back without a fight (or at all.)
you'll be paying a decent premium for cutting edge nvidia.

i paid 3k for my laptop and don't regret it one bit. infact it blows away anything storebought, especially when your friends and coworkers see it. i'd say it = a 2500 desktop.

have you priced laptops? you can't get a decent one for under 1k, and anything comparable to a desktop is 3k with alienware blowing away all competition at 3k.
