|
|
|
Why do I feel so compelled to buy console games, yet I almost never turn away from quake 3 and everquest? I've bought five or so RPG's for my playstation 2 in the past 3-4 months, yet I've only beaten one of them(baldurs gate, dark alliance), and the others I haven't played for more than ten hours combined.
Maybe I'm growing old and losing interest, or maybe it's just due to lack of time, I'm not sure. Hell, I bought Final Fantasy Tactics, I game I used to own and really enjoyed(though never beat) a month and a half ago yet I've never taken it out of the package. Maybe it's the MTV generation getting to me and I'm having a hard time sitting down for a few hours and getting wrapped up in the storyline? Or maybe the games are just sucking more compared the SNES rpg's I grew up with?
And yet I continue to buy them. What the f**k...
Wild ARMs 3, I would probably play through if it weren't for the horrible, horrible world map system. Suikoden 3, I can't even get past the first chapter of the characters storyline, it's just too f*****g boring. FFX, about half way through over a six month timeframe. It's not that I get stuck, I just don't have any desire to play it. Baldurs Gate dark alliance, fun game beat it in two weeks. FFT, not even out of the package.
Argh... enough babbling.

Suikoden III is tedious and downright sucky.

why, asks you? because you wish to disdplay your masculinity over the machine, your evelasting opponent, EQ and Quake, non-stop activity in order to gain the upper hand over a program.
your battle with computers will only end when....
you get a life.

I am getting the same way as well. For me I think the reason is twofold.
One - after playing online games in a community for so long, interest in single player games begins to drop as they become boring.
Two - Most console RPG's require you to level up by fighting shit over and over again. In MMO's, you at least have people with you to shoot the shit with during the level grind, whereas in a console RPG its just you. Again its boring.

You probably buy console games because the majority of the people you speak to (or write to) are of a common opinion. Somehow they justify playing Playstation and XBox 12 hours straight as "okay" or "normal," because you're playing 400 different games.
But... woa. Focus on one game?
Man that's... that's... WEIRD.

that's just it, you have to REALLY want to beat them. There are hardcore consol gamers, and hardcore online gamers, you are probably just a hardcore online gamer, and a casual consol gamer. Most of the time if I buy a consol game it will be sports or fighting, not something that I have to beat. The only games that I currently own that are really "beatable" are FFX, Metal Gear Sold 2:Sons of Liberty, Shinobi, Warriors of Might and Magic, and Splinter Cell. I've beaten FFX, and MGS, but Shinobi is difficult, WoM&M sucks hardcore, and i'm halfway through Splinter Cell. Problem with me, is I go through phases, sometimes I really like consol games, sometimes I really like online games. But in the end I turn to online games.

f**k console games, they're such a waste of time.
Well...so are computer games. But if I'm going to waste my time playing a game, i'd rather kill another person over and over than kill some mindless computer for hours on end that i've memorized all their spawn points!!

f**k you in Hell, Suikoden 3 was good (not as good as 2).
Anyways, console games are cool, but they are always the same. You can only do so much before you win.

Dude, you can't seriously like Suikoden III. I'd go on, but... the answers are just too blatant. I mean, I've seen complaints on the battle system, and I even didn't mind that so much. But two things:
1) Tedious, long, boring
2) Ducks
P.S. Sad thing about the 'long' part is there're very few PS2 games (esp. RPGs) that are longer than 10 hours playtime. This was one of them. However, it just wasn't enjoyable. At all.

Well, it's tough to understand unless you are obsessed with the characters and storylines from the series. If you just look at it as a video game, then yeah, I suppose it wasn't that great.
But since I am one of the above, I loved just about every minute of it. I liked the character's expressions, the music overall was the best of the series and the graphics were fine considering the game.

I played through 1. And some of 2. I never heard mention of a 'duck clan', so I figured they just added that in for god knows what reason.
I know most of the storyline, I just didn't like it so much. 'Flamer'? Please. Unless that, like the whole McDohl thing in 2, changed with a game save, then, man, it sucked.

FFTactics was god ... that game had the most interesting storyline of any RPG I've ever played ...
It still tops my favorites list so many years after it's release, and I still dream of another Tactics allowing you to follow Delitas story =/

Warriors of might and magic sucks hardcore, i even got it in my head to beat it one day... got damn far in it.. like the level or 2 before the end... and the f*****g game screwed up on me and wouldn't let me open one of the doors... =/
Btw, the dragon is utterly simple.... and gives almost a full level of exp every time you kill him... the max level is 20 =p
