On top of that, I didn't comment on anything "related to the states", because I don't know what the situation there is, as I pointed out earlier.

or heres a better idea, how about each country takes care of thier own shit instead of worrying about everyone elses? wife says to husband as they walk down the street 'ohh dear, for this years tax deduction lets donate 5 thousand to help feed the starving babies in africa dying of aids' as she steps over the feet of a homeless guy that was no more noted or cared about then a piece of discarded bubble gum. i think you get my point.

Actually, that isnt really being done for political reasons- The USA isnt at least (and since we're the biggest contributer to AIDS this is important). Currently, all of the funds are being used for medicine (and then only patented medicine rather than generic), and abstinence education. I'll openly admit even I'm an idealist.. but even i just cant understand how anyone expects the entire African continent to commit to abstinence and for that to solve the problem of AIDS. Secondly, the political authority may know how bad the problem is, but the general population is only beginning to understand. Only recently has even the most modern of the African countries (S. Africa) admitted that HIV causes AIDS.

I can understand where you're coming from, but also consider that when this is done, many countries actually decline into an even worse situation. They absolutely cannot get out- most of the African countries are *heavily* indebted, and they'll never be able to pay it back, which means the IMF owns them. These countries cannot afford internal improvements of any kind, because they're struggling to simply pay off the interest on their debt each year so that it doesnt become even larger. Whats sad is that a lot of the countries even have the resources to pull themselves out, but those resources are being exploited either by other countries, the government, or foreign investors (look at the congo- they have tons of diamonds/minerals, yet their GDP has been decreasing by around 4% for the last 10 years or so, and Nigeria is an OPEC member- yet still has something like 70% of its population living at under $1 a day). Other than that, add the fact that private countries are starting to control the water distribution in some African countries, so that only the rich can afford suitable drinking water, and the poor simply die- is why i think that we need to at least give these countries/the people of these countries a helping hand (not dump money on them, mind you, but help them).

Now, on the other hand, we have 35 million people within the United States who we consider in poverty- and it has been rising for a couple years now. Also consider that the poverty rate for whites is 10%, yet for blacks is about 25%. (fyi, if you make under $9,000 for one person/ $12,000 for two, its poverty). $9,000 for one person is *really, really* low. If you think about it, getting by at 15 or 20k is hard enough.

I guess i would like to do both, which is what we're currently doing right now, except more efficiently (waiver some of the patent laws for AIDS drugs, and reform welfare a little perhaps). To answer my own question though, i would say other countries are in a more dire situation, but at the same time we cannot overlook those in need within our own country. There's absolutely enough food in the world to feed every single person on earth, every day of the year, yet this problem is approached with a "no final solution" attitude. Its like you can see the solution, but can never get to it no matter how hard you try i guess.
