You pay for what you get. I'd rather have not spend the last three years playing a game where anyone and everyone can join and p**s people off without consequence.
F2P games e.g. Runescape - Dominated by 10 year olds.
Monthly subs - Parents generally control their subscriptions.

Hardly. On consoles i'd go through £40-80 a month on games because they don't have much replay value, except games like Oblivion or CoD4/Halo 3/BFBC. This was the case with my original xbox, i bought over 40 games for it totalling around £300-400, add in XBL subscription and its alot less when compared to about £8 a month for a single game that can be played over and over.
You pay for what you get - decent content updates, tech support, forums, expansions, semi mature playerbase. It's not like all those subscriptions are pure profit, they have massive bills to pay to keep servers running, staff paid, new content produced etc.. If you can't afford £8 a month to play a game, maybe Lego is a more fitting activity to be playing with.

It's all about what you enjoy more. $15 a month breaks down to roughly 50 cents per day. If you were to stop at a vending machine at work/school/on your way home/etc every day, you could easily end up spending more than that without realizing it.
The only people truly drained by this kind of expense are those without a reliable source of income - usually kids - which helps the quality of the game.

If it was free then we would get a game filled of immature people and the game will most likely be less stable due to funds for servers, GM's, Technicians and the like. I would prefer a high quality game that i pay for and can rely on rather than one that is free and is bad quality and fill of immature players.

Your paying for updates, your paying for quality, your not just paying because they want your money. They are running a business...

Considering the amount of play time that most people get out of WoW, ~$100 isnt that much at all.
You'll buy maybe 1/4 or less of the games you bought before playing WoW, and so you're actually spending less.

The way I see it is WoW is an addiction for most people. (Just admit it guys, its NOT a bad thing). So let's think about this.
Some other things people get addicted to:
1) Drugs (prescription or illegal)
2) Alcohol
3) **** (ie prostitutes)
Ok now lets see, if your addicted to drugs, lets just say marajuana for example. The average cost of a days use of pot is more then $15.
Alcohol. Lets say you go to the bar just once a week. The cost of a drink is $5 and you have 3. $15 right there for a week, and if your addicted, its ALOT more. (Try $15 for a 24 pack that only lasts you 2 days.)
****. Well, that aint cheep either.
For me personally, I'd rather pay for WoW then any other addiction I could have.
