It depends on the situation, doesn't it? Getting quietly drunk so you can think Deep Thoughts: single malt scotch, or maybe a nice Armagnac. Getting smoothly drunk so you can mix with people you don't know well but have to pretend to like: martinis. Getting boisterously drunk with friends: tequila. For some reason, drinking after exercise (raquetball, tennis, etc) has always been bourbon/rocks, although I'm not sure if that's a real attribute of the drink or just personal tradition.

Occasionally after a nice meal ill have a white russian.
Mostly though I trink water and tea and the occasional mtn dew.

However, I'm a big fan of vodka martinis. But I never turn down a Newcastle.
Aluaeia, have you had Schlafly's coffee stout? I think it's their seasonal, might be over now, but it was yummy.

I don't drink too often, but when I do I don't like to experiment, it strikes me as being a waste of time. If I went to bars more often I might try more stuff out there but so far my favorites tend to be Tokyo Iced Teas and Greyhounds. Cape Cods and Fuzzy Navels are good in bars with less to offer, I don't drink beer and wine's a waste of time.
If I'm making a drink at home I like mixing coconut rum with orange juice and a little bit of cranberry juice.
And for the record, there is nothing wrong with b***h beer.  Smirnoff Ice is good.

Little more expensive is Leinies Honey Weiss.
And, when and where I can get them, my favorite drink is a Rum Runner. That shit sit you on your ass.
Otherwise, mixer I like jack and coke or captains and coke.

If I am drinking out at a bar with the intention to get drunk, nothing beats a vodka tonic (Ketel One usually, sometimes spend for the Grey Goose) - goes down smooth and easy, not as much p*****g as with beer, and vodka is clean so less hangover than the darker liquors. And to prevent the hangover, at least 1 glass of water for every 2-3 drinks.
Drinking watching a ball game or casually with a meal? a good full bodied beer, my default choice is a Sam Adam's, but anything quality from a medium lager or amber up to a porter is good.
Out to a nice dinner with the woman? chardonnay if it is white, and bordeaux or cabernet if red

I used to get my neighbors kids drunk when I watched over them (yeah baby sat) for the nights. We used to get wasted off of rum and coke, then play super smash bros or mario cart on their parents master bedroom bigscreen. sometimes We'd be passed out on the floor when the parents came back.
we never got busted since I drank the rest usually, and just threw it in the trash. but one day I slipped up and left it on the front porch. The father asked where that bottle came from and I told him "I *hiccup* unno"
the kids were already asleep and wouldn't tell them to save their own lives.
All in all we had some great times, The parents told me never to return but couldn't press charges since the kids were already asleep and I was just chillin on the couch when they found my trashed ass.
I decided to sandpaper the side of their bmw when they were out of town one weekend just to mess with them.
good times.
