In 1606 the English monarchy was embedded into the Scots monarchy, this is not being "conquered". In 1703, hte Scots pariliament voted to absorb the English parliament into a United Kingdom. Through the strengths of Britain, Scots have always been at the forefront, from theorists such as Adam Smith (the father of Economics) to the founder of the Bank of England, to the power of the British Army, Scots have been at the forefront.
And from this Union, of which Scotland has always been in control, Scotland has amassed great wealth and privilege.
I know it's hard for you Seppos to understand strength through proxy as your entire nature is "can we nuke em". But here in the real world, the subtleties of reality hit home and Scotland is, as always, the greatest country on earth.

Well, to answer the question: it was no big deal. Power was out anywhere from 4-20ish hours depending on where you lived.
Of course, the moronic masses made a big deal out of it. There was literally shattered glass from accidents at every intersection because the lights didn't work. People just totally forget how to function without power.
