Your brain can't filter out one voice from another? When two people are talking to me at once, or when 1 person is talking to me and another person is talking near me, I feel like strangling people.
Even if it's just a television making noise near me, it pulls my f*****g ears and I can't focus on what someone is saying near me.
Anyone else have this problem? Or is it even a problem?
The only way it really interferes with me is I go homocidal when my ears are overloaded.

Maybe! Too popular an answer, though. I can focus really well except when multiple people are talking. It's like no matter how quiet or how far away they are, everyone is at the exact same volume: standing right next to my freakin ears.

You have a desire to be hyper aware, perhaps out of a fear of not being in control. You assign the same level of importance to conversations that do not pertain to you as the ones that are being directed at you. Why is it you feel you must "tune in" to everything around you?
Do you fear you might loose your job and are trying to pick up on the issues around you? Are you scanning other conversations to see if you can help out with the other subjects in the room?
Ultimatly it comes dow to personal focus and what you deem to be your target subject. If you cannot eliminate the background chatter then you need to work on letting everything go except for one thing. The next time you are in this situation zero in on the person you are speaking with and pretend that what they are saying is the most important thing in the world. Even if it means you ahve to concentrate and ask the person to repeat themselves so you get everything 100%. Eye contact is also invaluable for this. You cannot not hear someone who you are looking dead center into the eyes, and even if you do loose some of the words with that kind of commitment to the conversation the person talking to you won't mind repeating themselves.
You know, a while back I started to think that maybe I wasn't hearing as well as I have in the past but then I came to a realization. That realization was that my hearing isn't the problem, I've been tested and I hear fine. The problem is that some people do not communicate effectivly. They find so little value in what they are saying that they don't speak directly or lound enough to carry a point. Since I came to this realization I have no problem telling people they have to speak up because if you want to make a point then for f***s sake MAKE IT!

Well sir, Banzai, that's a heck of a response. I'm not sure the intensity of my focus on conversations is getting across. I'm a decent communicator (a lot better since I started this job, actually).
Here's a weird analogy, but I think it describes my feeling perfectly. Let's say you want to keep your eye on 1 of 15 ice cubes in a mixing bowl at medium-high speed, where each ice cube is a different person speaking. It doesn't move them at light speed or anything, but keeping your eye on 1 cube in particular is impossible.
Actually... it feels more like trying to write "Hello, how are you" in cursive in your left hand while simultaneously doing math problems with your right hand.

At night, before you go to sleep, are you hanted by throughts that keep you awake or are you at peace?
If you can't stop the thoughts from cropping up and keeping you awake then you might need to just get some quiet time. I used to keep myself awake all hours of the night with random shit until I told the thoughts to stop and just tried to hang out in silence. If you can remaine in a state of stilness for over 30 minutes you will notice a lot of background chatter begings to fall off.

I have the same problem at times, but not so much lately.
In high school it happened a lot, where I would be conversating with someone and I'd zone out because there were so many people talking at once, and something in someone else's conversation would strike me while I was dazed and I would have a hard time finding my way back into my original conversation. It's kind of like getting pushed to the back of a mosh pit, sometimes you don't have any control and as you get pushed further back, the intensity of the music diminishes, just like your conversations.
I ended up in a lot of situations where I hadn't heard a thing and would just nod my head in acknowledgement.
One of the main reasons I remember that happening to me was the fact that people talked a lot behind each others' backs in high school, and I would sometimes believe people were talking about me and I didn't want to miss it. (otherwise I would lose the chance to beat the holy shit out of someone)
Sort of an insecurity problem, I guess. That may not be the case with you, but i'm just throwing in my 2 cents and maybe it will hepl.

It could be a form of ADD.
Possibly a malfunction of your Thalamus. The Thalamus acts as a filter for most of the sensation that enters your brain: sight, sound, touch, ect. It is what allows you to focus on one thing and ignore the others going on in the background. If for some reason your thalamus stops acting as it should, you could very well find yourself unable to focus on what you want or filter out things you don't care about.
If it is really bothering you, you should probably seek medical attention. It could easily be something solved simply with the right medication, or a degenerative disorder that could get worse and worse as time presses on.
