I am still an active wow player after three years because the fact I hate all of the current mmorpg's. I have tried so far, LoTR, Guildwars, D&D, several frees ones, looked at EVE. This game has been fine tuned and tweaked until for the most part I cant really see anything I do not enjoy. I have many RL friends and online friends in this game that have been a total joy playing with just goofing off with.

While many different games have supplied me with this very same reason, WoW is the one currently fulfilling my needs. I live apart from my brothers and family, and WoW is simply a means for me to be close to them while still living apart! Its easier than talking on the phone and you get a sense of personal interaction. It's like hanging out from hundreds of miles away without the driving and money involved

Same with me, my bro and friends stayed real close on wow. Once some of them stopped playing its really tough to stay in touch while living hundreds of miles apart.

There is a good draw to escape from reality that originally gets people hooked, but then you make friends or perhaps play with real life friends and once you have invested a certain amount of time you don't want to just give up on it.
Also there are always new and interesting things to keep you going and new content is added all the time.

warcrack... I was really addicted. What kept me playing was the exploration of the game. I actually consider WoW one of the modern wonders of the world, it's so HUGE. But after ~140 days played, and a full T6 set I got bored. When the sunwell expansion came out, my hardcore guild had sucked all the motivation out of me and I just stopped wanting to explore. Game over.

"Nothing better", I don't think this is an excuse.
I have played about every FPS and RPG, and there are lots of other games that are better than WoW.
My reason ? My friends and I used to play an online game every day (cs, w3, warhammer .. ) and we thought of adding wow to the list. I still play the other games sometimes, but we mainly remained cs and bf2 players, playing wow on weekends.

I like the fact that you can meet new people every day and try new and different things. the game does not seem repetative at all and with the expansion coming its bound to grow more and expand its fun.
