I hope this thread is a joke... but just in case.
It's the Japanese word for "tidal wave." Tidal Waves are massive waves traveling at incredible speeds... think about having like a 7-10 foot wave crashing on your head... that shit sucks you under and slams you against the ocean floor.. now multiply that force by like 1000.
And yea, the earthquake registered an 8.9 (out of 10).. anything above 7 is immensely destructive.

I was listening to some "expert dude_001" on TV talk about how it shifted the earth enough to make our days .003 miliseconds shorter or some shit. Not a big deal but it's still cool that it could actually change the length of a day.

While google is great and all, and I love it, it's kind of made communicating with others pointless. It's almost impossible to ask somebody a simple question, just for the sake of starting a conversation with another human being. They always respond with "f*****g google it, a*****e" or something. Even in real life, I went to ask my dad if it's ok to wear a camel hair blazer in the rain, and he just says "f**k you, look it up on google" and hung up.
I mean, whatever.

and btw, we have leap seconds, like leap years, leap seconds are when they shift the clolck back or forward a few seconds to make up for pertibations in the earth rotation

The time it takes for the earth to rotate is exactly what makes our days and nights last the length they do.
So if our rotation completed .003 seconds faster now, then our days would be .0015 seconds shorter.
It would also increase gravity, and would pretty much brake our measurement systems oh so slightly on a micro scale, because they're based on the weight of certain elements on earth, which would now be weighing more.

I hadn't thought about this, but it's clearly true. Except I think it's the opposite. The earth is spinning faster because some of its mass moved closer to the center of the earth (like when you're on a spinning stool and pull your arms in so you spin faster). Since the mass is closer to the center of the earth, it's farther from the surface, which means gravitational force at the surface of the earth which diminishes as r-squared, should be less than it was. Maybe there's an asymmetry effect because it happened in one spot rather than equally distributed around the whole sphere, but I still think it should end up being less.
