The thought which says: "I am different." or "This moment is different." or "The rules don't apply in this case."

I cannot find any conflict or problem where a similar thought is not the source. Someone prove me wrong!

You can reduce that more and just say my perspective is diffrent than yours.

Even better.

I was avoiding a value judgment but I guess there is always a value judgment when a conflict erupts.

Which part?

In response to the ultimate boil down "I am right, you are wrong" you get to the cornerstone of conflict which is the difference of belief, regardless of how small. As soon as a difference is detected in any respect you have a conflict of a reality picture.

Sometimes you can dismiss it because ultimately your world makes sense to you and that's all you need, in other times you might feel pressed to convince the other perspective to come around to yours so that you fit in better with your surrounding environment, be it through changing your world view or convincing the other party to come around to yours.

If the issues is important enough the level of steaks goes up in how emphatic your argument becomes.

The extreme way to make a world or person conform to you or your outlook is to eliminate the opposing viewpoint, thus making you correct. If there is no one to argue your world view is not correct then you are once again firm in your view of how the world operates.

Ideas and opinions are slippery son of a b*****s though and have a way of surviving regardless of the method of compromise.

See, I dunno about that right/wrong view. A lot of time people will do things they know are wrong, but they believe that "in this particular case" being wrong doesn't matter. Like, "Oh it's just 4 beers. The odds of me being a drunk driver and killing someone tonight are low. They don't apply in this case."

That is you having an argument with yourself.

That doesn't count.

Not an argument - it's a person justifying their choice to do unethical things. The problem is it's not usually a simple justification - it's a core belief.

"It's okay to beat someone to death if [condition x]."
"I can steal from my employer because [blah]."
"Cheating on my exam is okay because xyz."

It's the "I'm special" or the "this scenario is different" syndrome.

Well, now you are talking about your ego.

When you are self conflicted you are fighting what your id wants vs. what your ego says you can have vs. what your super ego determins your rule set is. A diffrent conversation entierly because it's all in your head.

All problems stem from a system that is too complex for perfection.
