our beloved Shepard Hybrid opened the gate to our driveway and went exploring.
He was hit by a car and killed instantly.
I know this is Realpoor and some a*****e is going to come in here and make some smart ass remark. I am asking you not to. Please
but my heart is aching so badly, we need all the support we can get right now.
Gilbert came to us from a "foster home" of sorts, he had been badly abused and was in 4 homes before he came to ours for the rest of his life.
A lot of people that come here have met Gilbert and know how special he was
the most gentle and loving of dogs, he truly was an angel and so much a part of our family that it feels like I've lost one of my children.
He was loved by everyone that met him, even people that don't like dogs.
My daughters are heart broken, as well as my husband and myself.
Gilbert was one of those "once in a life time" pets...
Loyal, loving, smart, gentle, silly and wonderful.
He will be missed.
I love you Gilbert.

You have my deepest sympathies, Tamena. I grew up with a shepard hybrid that died of cancer, so I can somewhat sympathize with the pain, though I can imagine how much worse you feel =(.
Take it easy, and I mean that.

Oh that's so said.
When I was 21 I had to put down my shepherd/collie at a very young age (not even 2) due to a liver condition. It was tough, she was extremely intelligent and had a look that could melt your heart! Also, I picked her out with an ex-girlfriend and it was all I had left except memories.
I wound up getting a chow mix puppy a couple of years later and she's the most wonderful, loveable dog I know. Nobody was going to buy her in the shelter so she was probably going to get put down as well, but I guess life has a way of working out sometimes. My dog would not be here if my first dog still was, and I find that notion helped calm me.

That sucks bad. I consider my pets to be family, so I feel your pain. I just lost a german sheppard last month. That was the joy that my mom had when my ass moved outa the house, so she was torn up on the inside when they had to put her down from bone cancer.
/hug

The death of an animal, especiall accidental is always a shame, and will never seem justified. There's no malice in their eyes and for that it's never something deserved.
My condolances..

*hugs*
Tam, I am heartbroken for you guys ( Some people just have a pet because it's the thing to do or some other lame reason, but they really don't consider the pet part of the family. I can empathize with your grief, sis..
I miss our beagle, Baby, terribly. I left her with my ex when I separated from him, and haven't seen her in months. She was just 17 this year and...I"m not even sure she is still alive <sigh> He promised me he would let me know if/when anything happened to her, but I don't trust him to do that.

Same thing happened to my dog, it wasn't fun.
Go get a new pup as soon as you feel ready. It will take some of the sting out of your loss.
/salute Gilbert, and say hello to Otis in dog heaven for me.
