Ok so I know nothing about web design beyond doing HTML in notepad a few times for some class in college. I want to make a banner for our guild message board page kinda like the one ED has at the top of their page, where it displays a random banner from a folder each time you refresh the page.
I found .php and .asp scripts to do it on the web no problem, but I have no idea what to do with them. Can I insert them into ordinary HTML somehow? Do I need some kind of compiler or other software to do it? I'm sure this is simple but I haven't been able to figure out how to do it so somebody help me out
TIA

I started a little php tutorial but apparently my personal webspace doesn't support php. The server the guild board is on does, but I don't have a way to practice hehe. Would this be possible using just plain old HTML? I know some of you guys could do this in your sleep.

Are you skilled mage or a hardboiled warrior in search for most suitable guild to join?
Or if you're already guild member ready to share some real PvP experience…

It cannot be done using *just* HTML. However, you could use javascript or vbscript. They are both incredibly hard to debug, so I would personally suggest you use asp or php if you can, but they both can do the job.

Thanks for the reply. I finally found a javascript that I could just cut and paste so mission accomplished (i think, haven't uploaded it yet but it works from my hard drive).

I know it can be done in JavaScript, I just got done 'learing' how to do it...
...but I don't remember.
Look for a JavaScript tutorial or even the source of ED's page, it's written in JavaScript.
