i know absolutely nothing about this so even the simplest, taken for granted, information is something that i am asking for. 1) where is the best place to register a domain name. does it matter where i get it from or are they all the same? so basically just look for cheapest. 2) once i pay and get it registered. how do i go from there? i'll have a link but where do i create and save my 'homepage' or whatever i now have. 3) do i need software or anything like that to create cool looking sites? if so, what kind and how much? i'm not looking for anything outrageous. i just want to be able to upload lots of pics and eventually tie in the rest of my family. something they can add pictures to or to communicate amongst ourselves. any info is appreciated. thanks allan

1 - http://www.namecheap.com is a good place to start, I only have to pay like right about 9 bucks yearly for my domain name through them. Almost a full year now and I've yet to have any trouble with them.

2 - Need look around at webhosting and pick whatever's right for you, can't help much here, but I use http://www.8-95.com right now for webhosting.

3 - There's frontpage, dreamweaver, and some more software out there that can help you make decent webpages. I used to use frontpage, but don't anymore now that I can rely on good old notepad.exe for it. Twisted Evil

Oh yea, might want to look for WS FTP or CuteFTP as well for uploading stuff, makes things easier this way if you have to upload a lot to your webspace.

i use www.verio.com to register because they have a nice domain search feature i use to check domains. i use www.ipowerweb.com for hosting. 50gig bandwidth 2gig server and never had an outage in almost a year. i found them on some survey online ranked as #2 host, i pay around 7.95 a month.
