I'm trying to find a good hosting provider where i can place my website online.
Nothing has been made yet but since i will be studying webdesign and all sorts of stuff related to it i wanna have someplace to do it on.
Locally is fun and all, but i wanna see what it looks like online.

Not to mention have a nice repository of 500mb to 1 gig space to share stuff with friends abroad (movies, music, games etc).

IT be nice to have a moderate to high bandwith allowance.

Anyone have any good tips?
It doesn't have to be dirt cheap. Just good

tierranet ( http://www.tierra.net/ ) has unlimited bandwith .. i think limited storage

they have a $24 a month option and you get a domain name

i havnt seen that many other places with unlimited bandwith

but apparently they do have restrictions like "dont host a file server" and stuff like that, but if its just between friends i guess thats ok .. i forget what i read about their restrictions but from what i remember its more of a "dont host a server where youre having a lot of people coming to download big files"

i havnt looked at them in a while so they might have changed stuff .. but i used it for a time and it was good .. (a long time ago though)

I have a provider that I just love. It's called Hurricane Electric based out of Fremont, CA. http://www.he.net

They don't have unlimited bandwidth, but depending on how much you plan on using I believe their bandwidth and storage rates are decent. They are totally hands off. You have shell access (which is RARE nowadays) and ... well.. a whole list of shit you can do there. They pretty much let you do anything legal. You pay for the service and the uptime, not for the froofoo hosting and design work others charge you for. If you sign up with HE, you should know what you're doing altho their tech support is excellent.

If you choose them tell them I referred you I think I get a bonus Very Happy

I've been with them for about 2 years now. I was with slip.net before they sold out. I've never regretted hosting my site there altho I wish I dedicated more time to it.

Most people don't use max storage or bandwidth. If everyone did that, the hosting company would go out of business.
