the unemployment rate is just a measure of the percentage of people who are unemployed but are actively looking for a job. So, if we loose, say, 100,000 jobs, but 150,000 people get discouraged and decide to stop looking the unemployment rate will drop but we will still have fewer people employed.

a 1/10% drop in unemployment just means that people either gave up, retired, or went back to school. At least that would be my assumption given what I know of the number of brand new workers entering the work force each month. That being said, economics is at times in-exact, so it's hard proving anyone correct or incorrect.

I just thought it was an interesting story in the wake of the whole "we're turning a corner" campaign by bush (and fuel for a debate).

Or retired because they made millions off of the stock market boom. "Job growth" figures also ignore self-employment (the result of entreprenurship which accellerates under a healthy economy), consultant/1099 positions, agricultural jobs, etc. The unemployment number takes all of those into consideration. So while only 32,000 "non-farm" jobs were created last month (with a 3 year record-low of layoffs), there were many more jobs created in these other areas.

Oh, and...

MOVE THIS THREAD!!!!!

lol, but remember that these job statistics also include new hirings for NON-US citizens. You have to remember that the year prior to March 31,2004, an extraordinary amount of Non-Citizen hires accounted for more than 28.5% of the 1.3 million new hires for that period even though 8% of the available workforce are non-citizens. What this means for those of you who can't comprehend it's meaning is that not only do we include immigrants/illegal aliens in our labor statistics, the majority of these jobs are low paying ones that no one wants to take but immigrants. Well Bush still has a few months to fulfill his employment goals but I laugh at the Bush sycophants who really think he's doing something for our economy and our nation. Not saying Kerry is any better cause he's a putz too but at least we don't have his praisers blindly bombarding these boards on a daily basis.

Kerry is waffling moron who should've been strong during the DNC and put pressure on the UN to get assurances that if he was elected president, they would help our with this mess in Iraq. Unfortunately, he's a weak wanna be Herman Munster looking golddigger.

The problem is he never planned to do this and he was criticized for not taking advantage of it at the DNC and if your sources are correct that the UN will pledge to help, then obviously this is a missed opportunity for Mrs Heinz's b***h.
