The American people may be resilient in the aftermath of a disaster but they are also selfish f***s.
The various videos showing people waiting on their roof or calling CNN asking where their "ride" out of town is, are enough to make one ill. Talk about a sense of entitlement that is totally misplaced
The looters claiming they need to "take care of their families" doesn't exactly correlate to the videos of the looters running through the water with cases of beer under each arm.
The TV crews are saying that they are being threatened by people for their cameras or other items that may have some bartering value. A cop was shot in New Orleans, others shot near the Superdome; people carjacking stuff left and right.
and GAH, the Superdome...talk about a cesspool No a/c, bathrooms are overrun, garbage pails are overflowing, and where there were 10K people last night, there are now 30K people and more still arriving. Meanwhile, the waters are rising around them, so they are now talking about EVACUATING all of them to some other place. How the hell are they gonna pull that off??
ok, rant off..people just are p*****g me off atm.

Sir. Myself and the Dutch people take great exception to your statement, and to your bastardization of the spelling of the word "Heineken". Beware of flying sabot.

Ya, she told him to let her go so he could concentrate on getting their children to safety
I'm watching newer videos this morning, mostly of looters. When they have had mass looting after blackouts and such, law enforcement used videos to identify and arrest whatever looters they could identify. I guess they aren't gonna do that this time.
Oh yea, and the bathrooms are no longer working in the Superdome. Gross.
370K reservists not sent to Iraq or other places that are available for activation...

Seriously, alot of that is just because louisiana is a welfare ridden shithole to begin with.
As racist as it may sound, most are black, poor, and blame it on the government anyways, so they think it's fair to be doing that type shit.

I don't see how you can live in Camden, I think I would die, I am not even sure if they have any kind of internet connection out there, my grandpas house is in the middle of no where ( so is our land / next to his ).
I think I'd sit on the porch all day in a rocking chair...listening to........ " nothing " .

This may sound somewhat ignorant but it's not meant to be...I think they should consider NOT rebuilding some of those areas.
I cannot imagine the money that will need to be expended to rebuild--nor can I imagine that many of those people are going to be able to afford the insurance premiums...it's a good bet that some of the ones that lost homes didn't have any insurance as it is...
The cleanup--ugh. Forget the usual debris that's floating--the gasoline/oil that's floating around is contaminating everything that isn't being contaminated by human debris.
Every casino in Biloxi is gone except Beau Rivage and even if they rebuild, I can't see them showing a profit for awhile. Damn nice hotel, too...I was very impressed; was down there when they first opened.

Was just quoting CNN...I have no idea what they'd do, to be honest...just watching the pix on tv is overwhelming. Actually being a part of what's going on, well, I try hard to empathize, but so far haven't been successful at doing so...

I'm sure there's a reason this isn't being done... but why don't people charter a helicopter privatly to fly out themselves and their families?
I chartered one once in the US - availability is no problem at all, and the price is affordable. Get a larger one and share the cost with friends - sure beats sitting around with 30k other people and no way to shower...

The people that are in the superdome are there because they don't have transportation to get the f**k out. They are POOR! They can't afford to buy a $500 reliant K car, let alone charter a m***********g helicopter during a hurricane.

This is pretty funny: the captions to these pictures (still up at yahoo but I posted mirrors because they tend to disappear). Note that the black people are looters, while the white people are residents who "found" food.
It is possible that the captions are simply the result of being provided by different news services, but it's still funny

If they arrest them now where are they going to put them. They are having to evacuate jails now. The water in New Orleans is rising in a lot of areas not going down yet.
While I think they should all be shot, hopefully when things calm down they can go after them.

Oh, I didn't mean arrest them now..I think usually they do it after the crisis is over...in this case, I don't see it happening ever and that's why it's a free for all
Saw video of prisoners that were evac'd to a highway..sitting out there, cuffed, it seemed? and in the direct sun...ugh.

Their time will come trust me.
I saw at least 20 prison busses headed that way this morning.
The thing I saw today that upset me the most was the seige on a hospital to try and loot drugs.

Yeah this sounds pretty bad. Not sure why the National Guard can't respond. Don't they have amphibious vehicles and stuff? I thought this is exactly the kind of thing the National Guard is meant to handle.
| Quote: | Late Tuesday, Gov. Blanco spokeswoman Denise Bottcher described a disturbing scene unfolding in uptown New Orleans, where looters were trying to break into Children's Hospital.
Bottcher said the director of the hospital fears for the safety of the staff and the 100 kids inside the hospital. The director said the hospital is locked, but that the looters were trying to break in and had gathered outside the facility.
The director has sought help from the police, but, due to rising flood waters, police have not been able to respond.
Bottcher said Blanco has been told of the situation and has informed the National Guard. However, Bottcher said, the National Guard has also been unable to respond. |

The national guard around here is mainly engr. groups while they do have some most of what I have seen is bull-dozers and duece and a halfs. The main problem is the rising flood waters and depending on the area they are turning away people who have headed down to those areas with boats because its congesting the evacuation of people. If the flood waters keep up everything they have looted will be gone. Poetic justice in a way but also bad for everyone else.
At the local evacuation centers in my town, its been bad one was at a school they were fighting at the gas station next door over gas and beer. They put into effect no sales of alchol for a few days and people were starting to start stuff over that. In the school parking loot they were sitting in the parking lot drinking 40's and starting fights there as well. The local jails are getting crowded from these people as well. Its a sad site to see so many people try to help these people and they abuse it.

Nothing wrong IMO with going to the grocery store and "looting" a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs. It's not like you could pay for it if you wanted to, and those grocery stores with 5 feet of water in them are gonna wind up writing off most all of the food anyway. Breaking into a hospital to steal drugs though, that's messed up.
