Yes, these were the rumors among the people before the game was in the beta stages. The rumors doesn’t have to be always true I can say. I expected this game as more hardcore than any other before, but it seems that the main focus is thrown over the fun stuff. Even Wow seems like more cruel. Am I right?

I don’t know what does hardcore terminology represents to you, but I think that the Age of Conan and Warhammer online are true opposites if we speak about World of Warcraft. There are plenty of items and weapons hidden all over the whole gaming space inside Warhammer, and there is indeed a lot of time required for someone to collect all of them, or to finish the game and to become a hard core player.

It will not be that hardcore I think. Take PQs and things like that for example... Anyway when I think hardcore I think people yelling at you in Vent when you do something wrong (WoW Raiding)

WoW will always win in the PvE department - more heavily scripted

Warhammer will not be able to contend with WoW at the moment, But as long as they dont become as cheap as blizzard, they will be fine.

I played Everquest back in the day and everytime a new online game came out everyone would say it was a EQ killer. Well that really never came to be until WoW became popular.
If you were a trail blazer like me with these times of games then you would understand WoW is a pretty stable game with great lore/character selection and pvp/pve game play. It's going to be tough to break WoW's player base.

the MMO industry is leaning more and more carebearish. the success of WoW is an example set for rest of the industry.
