| Quote: | It is with a great deal of sadness that I have to inform the community that we have decided to discontinue the development of Warhammer Online and will be closing down this website with immediate effect.
This has been a difficult and painful decision but it was taken following a following a full review of the progress of the game, costs to date and future costs of the project. As a result both Games Workshop and Climax Development Limited, the computer games developer, have agreed to terminate the development project.
I would like to say a personal thanks to all of the people who have followed our development over the last few years, your constant support and enthusiasm has meant a great deal to us. |

I can make perfect dupes using melted lead tire weights(free) and RTV molds.
Give me one OOP lead mini and next week I have a whole army of them.
PPl used to freak when when I came out with a giant Zoat squad for my Tyranid army.

I always loved the Zoats, too bad they use to be part of the Tyranid armies long ago.
Send me some. ^^

I was reading an article about the future of MMORPGs at work today. Essentially, those in the business feel the market is already saturated... and that's before EQ2, WoW, Middle Earth, etc. come out. And didn't Microsoft just can their latest release too and sell Asheron's Call off? Yep!

The market isn't saturated. It's obvious that video games are taking over the movie industry, and eventually MMO's will overtake normal video games. What's suprising is the ABSOLUTE LACK OF ORIGINALITY when it comes to uses for MMO gaming. I guess then can be accredited to the cost of development and needing to be fairly mainstream. But it seem PAINFULLY obvious that MMO sports game will be one of the biggest things to ever happen.
If people feel that the MMO market is saturated, it IS with stupid RPG's all following the EXACT SAME f*****g FORMULA. Ok we got it, enough already! Another big thing will be when they start making GOOD MMO FPS games, which while there are some, aren't the best by any means.
Warhammer is cool, but they should of made a 40k online game, at least then we'd see something new. The only real thing Warhammer has going for it is it's awesome backstory and lore. Originality is something it has none of in anything except 40k.

The only problem with warhammer especially fantasy. Is the huge $$$ cost and the even greater time to paint them all. As a hobby it's cool, but for f***s sake, it's more of a time drainer then MMO's.

yeah True fantasy online got canned by MS, but not because of saturation.
It got canned cause they couldnt keep the server up for more than 5 mins and would take no advice from the MS techs.

It's a FPS for WH40K...graphics are so-so...but I want to see how it functions. |
That game looks pretty sweet, would be cool if they had all the playable armies in it.

Yeah I should've made that more clear. They feel the fantasy rpg market is saturated. Although it should be noted that The Sims Online is chalked up under the 'bust' column too.
Every developer has tried to capture lightning in a bottle again like EQ did with it's massive marketshare, but slowly they're realizing that it's not going to happen.

Thats why I made the dupes. I got one mini and reproduced it so well, it was hard to tell the original from the fake. I even made lead copies of plastic minis:)

some day the industry will realize that its not market saturation that makes us not buy their games, its the fact that they suck donkey balls... I think most people will buy 2 good games of the same genre even if they release almost at the same time.
Sims didnt fail because it was in a market with to many similar products it failed because it sucked. Them saying they think the market is to saturated for them to make a game is just a nice way of saying they wont waste the time making a s****y game hoping stupid people will buy it because theres already games out that they cant beat... so if saturated means no one will buy just any s****y mmo anymore just because it says mmo then yes its true, but I think to most people thats not what saturated means.. I imagine all markets are saturated under that definition. There is still plenty of room for quality titles even in the fantasy rpg genre.

The costs already went down massively when they stopped making the Warhammer models out of solid Tin, and did more Plastic.

But think about this also. EQ has had a development cycle of how long now? Like 6 years? A new MMO has had 2-3 tops. Any more and it's just not practical.
Thus, it's easy to do one better on a console game, but an MMO is just going to be rough.

It's really not huge money anyway. I think I spend about 350 on my Tau army and I can field pretty much anything I want. The time I had to spend painting it all kind of sucks but you only have to do it once and it's actually pretty relaxing once you get the hang of it so it's hardly wasted time.

GW employees get the metal minis based on the weight of the mini (a few cents per gram). The plastics are at a flat % discount. The plastics are actually less profit than the metal minis. Its good to have friends on the inside

I hated painting. I loved playing the game but god forbid me having to paint. And I started playing Chaos and I would only field like 12 guys in a 2000 point army. Painting was my bane.
But yea, most online games are so copy-cattish that it makes them just boring to even thing about.

do you have to paint em? cant you just like line em up and get like an air compressor with attachment and spray them all a solid color. I never played the game but always wanted to, initial startup cost stopped me. I think I might try to do the duping thing tho if I can find some good instructions.

Oh yea you can. Nothing like fielding armies that are all black or gray or white.
But when you play those guys who have those armies with incredible detail and I would have like 1 guy painted... makes ya feel kinda bad lol.
Some people like the painting, I was ok at it but hated doing it. Maath was fantastic at painting, but she hated it as well.
Go for it tho, its a pretty fun game some decent strategy to be used and all that. Good times.
