Sorry if this has been asked a lot of times before, but I couldn't find the answer elsewhere, so... What I wanted to know is how will weapons advance up the tiers, if at all? Are they going to upgrade automatically as you advance, either in appearance or in stats? Which would you prefer?

Well, we've been told a couple of times that "gear will matter", but that's just in response to rumors and claims that gear will be basically useless, or in other words that people will low end gear will be able to stand up to people with high end gear with little or no trouble. Personally, I don't think they will auto-scale.
