OK, so if this game is about combat (and I know it is), and if this combat is mass combat (and I hope it is), then how will interaction with friendly NPCs be handled? I mean, will you have some sort of coordinated interactions, with a computer-controlled guy telling you all when to attack and when to pull back, or will it just be player-controlled teams calling the shots, and mindless NPC grunts following?

Well, what do *you* think? Unfortunately, it's bound to be more like the latter option. This is not really a designer choice, it's just that the current technical capacity doesn't enable hundreds of intelligent NPCs all acting at once, on their own or commanded by officers. So, unfortunately, here wont be any "once more onto the breach" moments, at least not for the AI chars.
