Personally, I use to play the table top game so I love it. Its like starcraft, with more technical things for strategy, and awesome graphics/detail.

What do you guys think so far?

Played beta, was pretty cool, but it seemed like too much micromanaging. I still think they did a good job implementing the squad-based units instead of a mass of singles.

Its a great game and the graphics are top-notch but it still has some serious balance isues. Some units are still way overpowered (Space Marine Dreadnoughts, Eldar Fire Prisms, etc.)

If they manage to balance things I think it will be an amazing game.

But until then theres really no reason to use over half of the units in the game.

Space Marine armies are just insane with 4-5 squads of Marines, and it's the basic fek unit. =\

retail is so much better than beta

they appear to have done alot of upgrading over the beta client
units move so much smoother and looks much better.

me and my friend like playing vs computers in rts games
the retail AI has been super upgraded
so far it has been much fun

I used to love 40k the tabletop game but you couldnt put together any large-scale battles without taking years to set up.
Looks like these guys have the solution!

Yeah... but it looks awesome. I really enjoy the capture and hold aspect of it. You build up squads with leaders that have specific bonuses and stuff... Granted it is just another rts but they can't really get any further in the genre right now. A sad fact that is limiting most types of games anyway. No innovators sadly anymore. Just people doing what they are told so they can make the most $.

the comp was hard as shit on insane in beta too.

They prob do what most games do and let the comp cheat to make it harder.

Marines with rockets and/or upgraded antitank youvehicles work fine against those. However fire prisms were nerfed in beta but the nerf didnt do almost anything to ppl who play eldar (stunning your own units, didnt see many ppl go fire prisms and have melee units around of their own to stun)

Maybe I dont know how powerful those things are as I would always early game rush and kill 1 opp and by then 2ppl vs 1 nothing could save them from the zerg and even if they had machines my sm w/ rockets did fine.

Before fire prisms were nerfed I got rocked by an eldar using the prisms and the bugged commander lightning shit. After it was fixed I never saw it much, as I had developed my rush to stop eldar before they had time to get much of anything to stop a horde of melee units.

This is the third RTS game I enjoyed playing ever. The other 2 were Starcraft and Rise of Nations. I can't get into RTS games, but if I did I would play this one all night and day.

lol i like how they boasted during beta how the retail version will have single player campaign

I dont know if you can call 11 missions where you can only play one of the 4races really a single player campaign. There weren't any cgi movies during the campaign either. I have seen better story lines made for war3 player made campaigns then this that last longer.

The single-player campaign's ending was really f*****g weak. It ends making you think "ok now I gotta do the final mission" and it just goes to the credits.. absolutely no resolution to the story. I ended up beating it on hard thinking that maybe I can't unlock the last mission on normal difficulty to find out nope.. that's actually it.

What a crock.

But the story was decent, I liked the single player campaign except for the ending. I just hope that with the obvious expansion they let you play as the other races in the campaign mode.

It looks like the toned down the Dread's some more for release which I think was needed. The Space Marine squads really are awesome with missle launchers.

The game is good. However, the graphics are nowhere near being top notch (they're fine, just nothing extraordinary). It lacks a deep technology tree, meaning after a few games it's always the same thing, and the maps are really confusing to move around. As Frax said, it's just another RTS that will get played for a few months and forgotten. It doesn't have the power to be a classic like Warcraft or AoE/AoM.

It also came out the same week as Rome, and it's not half the game Rome is.

I'm having a blast with it, but i've been waiting for a new RTS that didn't suck since my SC/AoE days.

I know i am having a shit load of fun with this game, i like how you can assign different weapons to different squads, opens things up a bit, but they deffinitely need more races/heroes/trees.

*nods* I like this game a lot, I played Dark Eldar in the table top version for a long time, I've been trying to find maps and mods online for the retail version. I've gotten some good ones for Chaos, and there's an Imperial guard army being made, there's a project I was looking at earlier to add all of the Codex armies to the game, along with some new "campaign" material. Overall though, I've really liked this game.

HAH! Bring it, and I'll bring my Dark Eldar to wtfpwnyourass.

^_^

I got an Imperial Guard mod, but it REALLY sucks. And if you have it installed and play a Skirmish, the computer won't control the IGs at all.
