In an age where ecommerce sites are searching for ways to make shopping a breeze for consumers to their sites, retailing giant Wal-Mart Stores on Thursday encountered a major blunder.
Walmart.com shoppers contemplating a "Planet of the Apes" DVD purchase were also automatically offered up recommendations to other movies of similar interest via its cross-selling system technology.
The problem, however, was the combinations were offensive.
The "Planet of the Apes" DVD generated referrals to movies about famous African Americans, such as Martin Luther King Jr., according to a report by Associated Press.
Wal-Mart has since shut down its entire movie cross-selling system, until the problem is resolved and noted it is "heartsick" over the "offensive combinations," according to a statement posted on its site.
Wal-Mart's technical difficulties also included such random referrals as suggesting DVD buyers of Home Alone and Power Puff Girls movies to African American-themed DVDs.
A copy of the DVD site and the offensive referrals were noted by blog site San Diego Johnny, which spotted the error on Walmart.com's site.

Wal-Mart sucks.
That company is going in a downward spiral. They have so many lawsuits to start with. Your going to start seeing Unionized Wal-marts you watch. I think there are already a few in canada if im not mistaken.

I think Wal-Mart has peaked, or will soon, just due to the fact that there are only so many people who want to buy s****y products for rock-bottom prices. There's another market segment that's willing to pay a bit more for some quality.

Peaked. Not yet, but getting close I would say.
As for the law suits....they have had tons of law suits against them for years. So does every other major corp out there. You just hear more about Wal-Marts cause they are the biggest thing out there right now.
I don't think there are any unionized Wal-Mart Stores. If so I would definitely know about it. I worked for them for 11 years, most of which as a manager, live a few miles from their corporate headquarters, mother is the head of the signing department for the marketing division, and I still have a ton of friends with them.
I left because I got fed up working way to many hors for not enough pay. The middle management in the stores get f****d around alot. They ask you to work way to many hours, erratic ones at that, for not enough money. If you make it into being upper tier store management it starts to get alot better. The money sure hell gets better if you are lucky enough to get one of the better stores.

I hated working for that company. The whole squiggly thing sucked. I didnt work there nearly as long as you but 5 years is pretty respectable. They make tons of money and your right they dont pay employees well enough. Your right about the hours they make you work. They jack and d**k you around so much its rediculous. Thats why I quit too. Too much BS.... I had no intention of being a "company man" either . f**k that .

Yep. I constantly got shit for not being hard enough on my employees, but I tell you what.....there was not a soul that worked for me that would not do what I asked them to. Everyone in my area knew that we could have a good time at work, but if they f****d up I would chop them off at the knees. They loved me because I wasn't a hard ass and my areas always shined. Still I got shit aout being to friendly and chummy with them.
The only way I would ever go back to work for those f*****s would be in teh corporate office and even then it would have to be one hell of a good job. Otherwise they can kiss my ass.
Now that most of the poeple who didn't like me are gone I have started being asked if I would come back. Namely because a couple of the stores in my area are having major people issues, and I was one of teh "good guys" in the employees eyes. I tell them that to get me to come back it would take way more then they are willing to pay me, and when I throw them a figure they baulk everytime.

I hate walmart I have never seen a store that is open 24 hours packed at 3am. I hate going there and I couldn’t imagine working there. I remember the commercial with the girl who finished college and is so happy to clean the toilets at walmart and he mom has worked there like 14 years.
No offense but I wouldn’t be happy going to walmart to an entry level position after graduating college. I know you need to work your way up but at walmart? I can see if you’re a manager but damn.

It was probably just some coding in the site trying to sell excess MLK-type DVDs, and when someone searched Planet of The Apes they had to cry about it. WTF does power puff girls have to do with blacks?

That was commercial had to have been b******t or the girl was a total idiot. They usually start people fresh out of college in the management training program to become assistant managers or move them to Bentonville to start in the corporate offices.
