I am sure people would be more inclined to debate or argue. But there is no motivation when the only things people say are " you are wrong" , "You are an Idiot" or "show me where on the constitution it says ...." rather than actually elaborate and enunciate their thoughts.

I usually endeavor to incorporate as much impircal evidence and quotes to backup what I say. While the tone of my posts is .. somewhat degrading, that is simply my debate style and while I will call someone an idiot, I try to support that with reasons why I think that and I encourage my adversaries to do the same about me

See, that's the problem...It's realpoor and poeple think acting like know-it-all jack asses is the way to get their point across, when rather, just stating their opinion and listening to others', while reflection upon your own is so much easier. It doesn't need to involve name calling, because as soon as that happens, the original argument is blown to bits and no one is going to comprimise their own opinion to match someone elses. Especially when those people are being negative towards each other.
I guess there isn't any place more appropriate to do that then here, but really, if you're pressed to get your point across, do it in a decent manner and you'll find that MANY more people will listen and understand your point of view.
It's just when someone posts with an ignorant opinion, people jump on that person's case like they are completely retarded, and in turn making that person defensive and obligatory. They feel like they are being attacked (which they are, for a weakness they weren't to shy to hide) and have to resort to name calling and slandering to end their woe, or to feel that they are in the right.
I pulled this on WhereNWS in Gutrippar's post, which I shouldn't have...I called him thick headed, rather than addressing the fact that there are more to people than one night of fun after a wedding ceremony. That's all I had to say, but instead I jumped on his case because no one else was getting through to him in their posts. It seemed as if he KNEW he was right, that gutrippar and friends are immature. I hate know-it-all's that say negative things about people they don't know and think it's justified because something in their own life led them to believe a certain way.
It's f*****g ridiculous to judge people you don't know.
Anyways, ya, Realpoor isn't a great place to pick arguments, because they turn into third grade quarrels instead of being held with dignity and respect for another human being and their opinions. It's too easy when you can say whatever you want without fear of escalating to a physical fight, because I could see that happening in a few cases. :p

Good points, Syke .. the funny thing is I actually use the same debating technique IRL .. I call my oponents Imbiciles and morons, etc ... Wanna know why? Cause people can't debate properly if they are p****d off.. My old debate teacher in HS taught me that lil trick .. works every time .. get someone mad at you and the quality of their debating goes WAY down

So evil lol.. My brother does this to me all the time. I always promise myself I won't argue like that and start losing sense in the argument, but I always find that name calling feels so much more satisfying than trying to get my point across to someone that isn't going to bother listening.

It's just a matter of how well the opponent reacts to this type of statement that makes or breaks them.
