What about this new threat to MMORPG dominance.
Do you think it willbe like AO, SWG, etc etc where its fun to play like a week?
Is your Whole guild moving?
Is EQ still your God?

Pretty much. I dont think anything will "dethrone" EQ with the exception of EQ2 or perhaps EQ Live itself.

Pretty sure it's going to be a new SWG. A good base game just really crappy support and no new content. I'll play it but prolly for not more than a month unless i get hooked and the only game that has hooked me ever has been EQ. Way too much hype going on about it right now.

My thoughts exactly.
Thing is this, EQ sucked the first year, it took most of us forever to level granted but when we hit the top it was like 100 people in LG and a 100 people in SOLB and every guard on the server was perma killed.
The only reason we stayed was there was no other game to compete with.
Content is king and the easier the game is the faster the content dries up.
I predict WOW will be fun for a few weeks and wont really come into its own for a year or so.(if it ever does)

WoW stylised Blizzard Graphics are annoying, but if the gameplay isn't as repetitive as EQ's (count to X, hit ch) I belive it'll take a large chunk of EQ's playerbase.

have you seen min req's for this game?
800 Mhz or higher CPU.
256 Megabytes or more of RAM.
Geforce 2 Graphics Card or better.
3 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space
Is f*****g sick, but graphics arent the main reason i play a game. Its content.

WoW will be a good game, will sell tons of copies based because of the Blizzard's fanbase. It will bring hundred of thousands of new players to the MMORPG genre...but I think most MMORPG veteran will be tired of it very quickly.
I read a lot about WoW, and will defenitly give it a try, but it's nothing new, and I mean absolutly nothing new. It's EQ in the setting of Warcraft, it's the most EQ clone of all MMORPG that have come out in last 5 years. Essentially they are simp,y remaking EQ, keeping the heart of what makes EQ a good game and tweaking all the rest...
So it should be pretty good, except that it will be too easy, it will lack depth and have no challenge whatsoever like all blizzard games, which is why veteran MMORPG will tired of it extremely fast, while the diablo/warcraft fans will most likely love it.

Frankly it's too early to tell which game, WoW or EQ2, will be the best. You cannot gauge the quality and depth of their content yet just by what is on the Internet today about both games. People will have to wait and see.

No. Old EQ had tons of conent. And it wasn't till 2months before till the expansion that it started getting *very* crowded.
I know I played A LOT more EQ back in the old days then most players. And I got to the end game about as fast as was possible. Even so the content hardly dried up. When Solb and Lguk were becoming crowded they released Fearplane. When fear was easily dominated it was hate. And while Sky loot and the itemization was terrible it was still a great zone for the endgame due to it's impossible nature.
Original EQ may not be the largest game but it definitely had the most content per square inch. If they had made Permafrost a SolB like dungeon with good loot there would of been virtually no overcrowding.
As far as how it will be. I'm not sure if any game can provide the somewhat magic era of original EQ where even the experience of the mmorpg was new. Even to UO/M59/Realm players. WIth the knowledge people have of MMORPG gaming nowdays it's hard for them to make the pace the same and be enjoyable. If there is any company that can pull it of it's Blizzard. THey release some of the best games in every genre they have tried. I still play Diablo 2 today and the game is like what 2 years old now? They have the talent and funding. they definetely CAN make an EQ "killer" , the only question is if they will, and I have to say I am currently somewhat hopeful, but I'm not a fanboi yet.

EQ2 is going to be another AC2
Another sad case of game designers building an entire game around an aspect of another game that only some people liked to begin with.
EQ as it is makes me wish i'd of never played it at all, After being gone since just after velious, I actually feel guilty for wanting my old friends to do stuff with me, because I know anything I could actually take part in and not be just dead weight, isn't worth their time, so basically I have jack shit to draw me to play eq.
I have high hopes for WoW, but seriously, I don't know if I want to bother with another time intensive game, and i don't know how to be a casual player, so we'll see.

I agree, the power bands between a top aa/equip 65 pkayer and a low aa/equip player are something along the lines of a level 50 compared to a level 35-40 in old school EQ. And if you're a melee class it's worse. While from a perspective I can see how that's a good thing. I think it's lame that the power shifted so considerably that you could become worthless. Example: When you're a warrior with a LFG tag on and you get a random tell asking what your hp/ac is, the game has reached a joke.
P.S. The whole GBA thing is such a lame money making scheme. They just failed to make a decent UI.

Most of Blizzard's games have been awesome (Diablo 2 sucked), but none of them would hold a hardcore gaming audience in thrall for hours on end, day after day, year after year.
They have had continuous security issues on battlenet, their primary fanbase is too heavily dominated by a crowd that is younger than I want to game with, and I really don't think they are prepared for how difficult it is to keep hardcore online rgp gamers in line (exploits, etc) and entertained.
I love Blizzard and play many of their games, but I really don't think it'll be all everyone is hoping for. As much as the relationship with EQ has been one of love/hate, I think EQ2 will most likely be the next game for me.
Hopefully, I'll get into beta and be able to try it out and will be amazed and love it... unfortunately, it's gonna be all random (biggest mistake Blizzard has made) so I'm not holding out hope.

Absolutely, hands-down, 100% could not agree with you any more. When Frozen Throne came out, Blizzard even went so far as to announce they had no intention of fixing the client-side "no fog" map hack. It just really ruined my desire to play online with any of their products.
In fact... I probably play WC3/Frozen Throne about 10 games a week or more. All single player because even 1 instance of losing to a cheater has soured me for life.
WoW is worth a shot but no matter how well balanced and designed the classes are, if you blast 500,000 lemmings down a toilet at least 1 or 2 are going to find a niche in the sewer somewhere, hang on, and crawl back out.
Not sure how that analogy relates to cheaters and exploiters in EQ but it does. Somehow. Surely.
