BRUSSELS, Belgium (CNN) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Wednesday that Iran must live up to its international obligations to halt its nuclear program or "the next steps are in the offing."
"And I think everybody understands what the 'next steps' mean," Rice told reporters after a meeting with NATO foreign ministers and European Union officials.
"It's obvious that if Iran cannot be brought to live up to its international obligations that, in fact, the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) statutes would suggest that Iran has to be referred to the U.N. Security Council," she said.
Iran has refused to halt its nuclear program, saying it is only intended for peaceful energy production.
In recent months, negotiators from France, Britain and Germany have been trying to coax Iran to fully disclose the parameters of its nuclear program and abandon efforts to produce nuclear fuel in exchange for economic and political incentives.
"The message is there, the Iranians need to get that message, and we can certainly always remind them that there are other steps that the international community has at its disposal should they not be prepared to live up to these obligations," the secretary of state said.

As for the population..around 100,000,000 or so are really the ones who matter in the US. Those 100,000,000 are worth far more than the rest of the world.

As blunt as it sounds every country on the planted exists at our pleasure. There is no country we could not annihilate. Yes even china and russia. If there was an all out world war America would be the ONLY country left standing.
You may not want to believe that, but its true.
But, Llke I said before. America is nice, if you are nice. Things have changed, forever. No president after Bush will ever have the leisure of being a wimp, like so many scumbags in the past. All will be forced to take *some kind* pre emptive action if a threat is identified, Bush has set the mold. And I'm not talkn dropping a bomb or 2. No more sitting back and hoping talk will correct the mindset of animals. Logic has prevailed over the emotional stupidity of the liberal scumbag democrats.
Again I say, its our planet, everyone else just lives here. And thats just today, imagine 100 years from now when America has permanent bases on the Moon and maybe Mars.
Then we will own 2 planets and a 20? Moons?!
This already has an American flag on it. Thats just the start of great things to come:)

Unfortunately I have to agree with Kbarr on this. The world is our playground and our military is trained to conquer or subdue anything that goes against our interests. I still don't understand why our troops in Iraq are building houses, schools, firedepartments, and police departments when they're not exactly intended to be utilized as free charity labor, to a country most of us really don't care for anyways. I'm hoping a percent of Iraq's oil sells will be given to us, to reimburse the 200+ billion we spent to liberate them plus hundreds of thousands of man hours. Where we stand right now Saddam Hussein was never worth 200 billion and 100,000 american troops occuping Iraq for 3 years now? If we plan on a preemptive strike towards Iran, I hope we'll have the sense to destroy their country and leave. We helped rebuild europe and japan after WW2, but I don't recall either of those countries blowing up americans sent to help.

It is not that the US "owns" the planet. It is that the US, along with a few other countries, have a spine. The world is not a "warm and fuzzy" place. Many Americans view what is going on as WWIII. Yes, the American flag still stands on the Moon's surface. That's why China is trying to get men on the moon, to remove it. 
Maybe we should tell them we planted one on the Sun's surface. Think they will believe us and go there to remove that one?
