Virtual memory is space on the disk that it writes the stuff to that doesn't fit in memory while it's not actually using it. It's called the page file (or swap file sometimes). If that file fills up, you're out of virtual memory, and you need a bigger page file. Depends what OS you're running. If it's Windows it's normally set to expand the page file when you need it to be bigger, although sometimes people disable resizing for efficiency. You need to either turn on automatic sizing, or make a bigger file. If it's a unix system, sometimes you need to delete some stuff out of /tmp.

Lolz. You playing a DOS game? Every single computer game I got in the DOS age I had to f**k aorund with virtual memory to get it to work and I was like 10, it was toally like hacking the gibson, I had no manuals or anything.
I don't know how you do it nowdays but you used to have to f**k around with Himem.sys and some other stuff, then use a boot disk to load up the computer to the specifications you needed to run specific games.

sinrakin basically covered it, however since it's using your HD space, running out of it may be a problem too (delete teh pr0n!).
If it's a continual problem, come back and tell us your OS, apps you're running in the background and apps/games you run a lot.
